Idk if its the opener or not, but I know my brother, who is in VA, said that they have to count the Choreography of one of the songs in 7, not 8.

Hope that helps.

That is correct, and thank you.

Does anyone know what time signature Ankeny's opener is this year? I'm not very good with deciphering time sigs, but I think Coldplay does it in 15/8.

WOW........... thats all i can say by these results.. I am biased being a Studio member from 2007-2008. but by Going by the finals performances i really think i would have put

GC-Studio (best vocals)
1st Ankeny VA (best choreo)
2nd Hastings Riverside Company
3rd Valley Correlation
4th Norris
5th Urbandale Vitality

I just didnt see anything in Hastings show that made me want to keep watching... sorry for the rudeness of this but i just was really really surprised. haha Ankeny, you killed it in the finals! that show had an amazing amount of energy! and this show might actually be the first one in a while that i really do like. Keep it up!

As much as I respect peoples opinions, I just have to clarify something. I think many times young adults judge groups on "energy". Each competitions judging ballot is different, but I can tell you in 15 yrs of judging that I have never seen the "energy" category on the ballot. And even if it is on a schools ballot somewhere, I can assure you that it is one "sliver" of the pieces of a pie that makes up a complete judges ballot. This competition was an incredible panel of judges and you have to trust that these experts saw and heard what they saw and heard. Before posting on showchoir.com, I think we should all try to educate ourselves with facts, rather than speaking from emotion!

Wow, thanks, that is really nice of you to say!! Yea, its tough out there with everyone's styles being so different its really just the judges opinions. Everyone is working so hard this weekend and you look so good its just a little frustrating when we get odd points taken off- ie. the crowd was too loud, someone yelled durring a chord and their "note" through the chord out of tune lol owell, I can't imagine how hard it must be to judge these competitions. we'll just keep working hard nice job everyone

ankeny- i agree with how ankeny felt too "intense". watching some of their facials during the ballad was honestly quite disturbing. its supposed to be a solemn song but i don't think there is a reason to contort your face as much as i saw some people haha. their shows are always fun to watch, but i feel like they use the arms a little too much-just a personal opinion.

urbandale- you have an amazing show and it was way fun to watch. the other thing i was weary about were the women's vocals. they weren't as strong as they have been the past couple years i don't think.

hastings- i missed some dancing in your room! but as for your show, i loved it. i not only enjoy watching your show, but i also have a ton of respect for your school. i've never heard anything about hastings people trash talking other schools, and while i'm sure it happens inside your choir (and honestly, what choir doesn't talk trash about other choirs at some point?) i didn't hear any of it, and thank you for that

valley- i was really satisfied with how much we improved once again. we are an extremely young group (8 seniors), and to know that we were under ten points behind ankeny after the day was incredible. i've never heard of us being that close to them.

johnston- your show was way fun to watch, especially the drummer solo guy haha! this is always a tough competition, and this year didn't disappoint. i hope we go back next year, because we are going to have a MUCH older, more experienced group, and i hope we can break through the glass ceiling we've always had at johnston!

We missed our dance parties too... We love you guys. I really wish we were at more competitions together.

very nicely put (: it's a good life lesson. a better one is putting it all behind us and coming back next year and having massive dance parties with one another :D

SOOOOOO true! :D

No matter any circumstances at a show choir comp, any comp for anything for that matter, and LIFE IN GENERAL, being mature and respectable is necessary. Nothing will ever justify callous behavior. Especially frivolous kind.

Even then, can you really blame them? I mean, Urbandale did go undefeated last year, and have been one of (if not the) most successful show choirs in Iowa. I think if anything, the Urby kids are frustrated

btw i'm not really complaining about West's results. they sang extremely well. i didnt get to see them in day round but everyone i sat with did and said they should get 2nd.

tara tober put north way higher than they should've been placed and mixed up the results a bit.

I feel like choreographers judging their own groups can be more unfair to the group itself than to their competition. If I remember right, didn't Kevin Breazeale give Iowa City West the lowest scores of any of the judges in finals at Great River 08? That has to be a difficult situation to put someone in.

I don't think it's fair to anyone to do that. Props to Johnston, Hastings and Stephen for avoiding that situation.

Yes he did, but he also scored lower than most judges, so you can't really just say he was unfair to them. he placed them 4th. using only the day round judges finals scores, the results would've been how everyone i sat with in day round pictured them.

well, i think the comment about hearing about Urbandale making rude remarks comes from the competition. i personally didn't hear anything said but i know a few of the hastings kids heard Urbandale saying some stuff. but what's important to remember is that it's behind us all now. Urbandale was amazing and you guys have an incredible show. best of luck the rest of your season (:

I'm a parent of a Riverside member, and yes, there were some very rude things said by a couple of the Urbandale students at the competition. One of them told one of our choir members that Riverside did not deserve a 1st place in prelims and when our guy just walked away, he was told "yeah, you would walk away like a p**sy." That is unacceptable. The other thing was a couple of Urby gals saying bad things about Hastings in the lunch line waiting to buy food. Not everyone is wearing clothing to identify the school they belong to, and kids should be more careful about what they say because they never know who is standing in line and can hear them.

But, didn't Dina Else get sick though?

yes. she was scheduled to be the 5th judge. Both Tara Tober and Kevin Brazeale were meant to be finals judges even before Dina left.

i'm glad both hastings and Stephen honor their integrity like that. at Great River 08 two of the four judges choreographed groups in finals....

if i understood our director correctly, Stephen didn't judge in finals because of Hastings competing. he's our choreographer.

yeah Jeff.. thats why i said "sorry for the rudeness.." i wasnt speaking badly about any group... i was stating my opinion which it seems that what everyone else has been doing... coming from and audience member i was saying that i was surprised to see that Hastings won... I apologize to any Hastings member who took offense to my comment but thats my opinion and i find nothing wrong with posting it on here...
