haha yes last year. and the year before. my brother was (is) pretty much obsessed with show choir and he got the results. one judge scored us 10 points lower than the others. haha i'm way pumped for hastings. i sat by a hastings mom last year and she was way tight. and valley and hastings have a little dance off thing. so thats always a plus :D i'm voting for hastings to win haha. well there aren't votes i guess but you get what i mean.

I was quite confused too, being that it's our contest.

Nah sorry if it did offend. I actually wasn't talking about zion not making finals tho...stuff happens, it was a tough comp, someone had to go home :-( but Pretty much all competitions aren't 100% fair or clean. It might have just been a rumor also...that tends to happen in the show choir world Sorry everyone
Regardless...I can't wait for this comp and to watch urb / ank live again for the 2nd time in my life!!!

I feel like I should maybe be offended by this, but I'm not sure.

I would guess he is referring to the Mount Zion situation... hopefully not the Urbandale sweep.

yes i'm very excited. i've been to johnston for 5 years straight but this is my first time competing. i hope the judging is as fair as waukee. because i've seen past results and have also seen some shaky scoring. great lineup though.

sorry guys haha after i read over that just now it does kind of appear like i'm defending or whatever. all i'm saying is that i'm excited. the names of the top 4 (i hope we all agree that urbandale, hastings, ankeny, and valley will be the top 4) are all esteemed. valley probably having the least known reputation out of the 4. i guess the only thing i'm saying is that it will be exciting. sorry for any misunderstanding

Jay, did you stay for finals at Linn-Mar? Just curious because I felt like our kids did a lot better job pumping up their energy and expression level at night. Wondered if you felt the same way or not.

I think this is going to be a very interesting competition. The only group attending with a grand championship this year (two in fact) is Hastings. I know Valley and Ankeny will both make improvements over last week and I can guarantee you Urbandale will.

I'm really looking forward to it and hope I get a chance to see a few groups live this weekend. I never made it into the auditorium at Linn-Mar at all last week except when we were performing and that makes me a little sad.

Yah I saw your prelims and finals performance, both from the back of the aud, so it was a good view.

The energy level was better in finals ESPECIALLY in the first two numbers. There was a girl in the front the entire show who I swear NEVER smiled (although she was a terrific dancer), and she was not the only one completely lacking in facial expression. I know this must be a tough show for the singers to perform, I honestly don't know how I would react when asked to perform such an emotional show. Some songs, the kids may have been taught that smiling in a cheesy manner is not appropriate (and I would agree) but the closer is too fun to not smile.

The energy just seemed down from other Urby shows and I was really surprised by it. I just expect dynamic faces, and extreme energy from Studio and I just didn't get it. It could be the song selections, but I know the performers can really get into the show much more.

One thing I found with both Studio and Vitality were that the bands KICKED BUTT! But we lost a lot of words because of the awesome sound. I personally thought the keyboard and guitars were a tad too loud, mostly with Vitality... Studio can handle it more.

And one last thing, and Chris can attest to this, I definitely tried to seek you out at Supernova. You told me sometime last year to come up and find you, and I realized.... i have NO CLUE what you look like. hahaha. so I'm planning on coming to Kennedy, I look forward to seeing the show, and actually meeting you! But just in case I don't find you, look for me. As Adam so nicely put it... I'm the "crazy Ginger"

I really hope you aren't taking offense to predictions of others. Its the worst thing to get worked up about. Seriously.

Haha yeah, I agree... if I predict you somewhere that you don't like, it should make you happy because I'm never right anyway

hmmm this is really gonna be a toss up. i think the top three are going to be REALLY close and it will just come down to a) judges opinions and b) who had "the edge"

GC: Urbandale
1RU: Hastings
2RU: Ankeny
3RU: Valley
4RU: Norris
5RU: Vitality (because their band scores will put them in finals over PM)

BV: Urbandale
BC: Hastings
BB: Urbandale

if Urby doesn't step up the energy and faces from last week, this will NOT be the outcome.

i think it won't be as obvious as some people think. i don't think the top 3 are going to be that way, even though they might be. choralation is making improvements (obviously), and i think we'll do better than the past. not only because of esser, but because this is the first year in a LONG time that johnston hasn't been our first competition. the only thing is for sure is that it is saturday the 23rd :D
