COngrats to all groups. I haven't seen many choirs but i new NC was gonna win. They always seem to do well at state despite results of other comps. FC has amazing vocals & show is really interesting. I heard u guys had an almost flawless performance!
I do have an issue with FC girls getting 6th tho...thats interesting.

i k r? after taking out descants at BD I thought they'd be at least top 3... could have just been a rough show, no finals... etc...

...Northridge Starlights named State Grand Champions and being the first music ensemble from Northridge to do so! Congratulations guys! Proud alum right here.
And just to mention, that it was jryoder1192's mother who is the director of the Northridge Starlights! CONGRATULATIONS indeed!
And, getting back to the topic...Small School State Finals had some amazing groups in both divisions. The talent level at Plainfield was just amazing. I would assume that Large School was the same, but alas, I was not able to make it.
Congratulations to the Northridge Choral Department! 2 Best Bands, Best Vocals for Womens, 4th place mixed, and Northridge Starlights named State Grand Champions and being the first music ensemble from Northridge to do so! Congratulations guys! Proud alum right here.
An interesting coincidence I found: Excluding Large Mixed, the group that went first in each division ended up placing 4th. I'm not saying those groups did not deserve 4th, I just found it interesting.
I have to say, that I was there and thought the top 3 were so close it was nearly impossible to pick a winner.
Carmel was nearly perfect, but a very dated, boring show. I think the vocals were impeccable and gorgeous, but maybe just a bit understated considering how much of a punch FC packs this year. Thought Carmel would run away with it bc of this scoresheet, but I was wrong. LOVE the purple girl's dresses from the ballad. You all looked FIERCE! The person I was sitting next to leaned over to me about 45 seconds after the vocals started and said "So they definitely win right?". Your stage presence is intense and so regal. Well done Ambassadors! Another great year.
North Central was very exciting, but lacked the vocal strength I'm used to hearing from them. The show was interesting and new, I really enjoyed it. Great Choreography, and all around a wonderful design. I did figure that FC would take vocals from you, seeing it back to back like that, but CONGRATS on another state title and the BC and BB!
Franklin Central had a really great show, lots of Wow moments, other moments that seemed a bit sloppy. I don't know if it's because it was a one performance situation, or what, but they really didn't seem to lock in until halfway through the ballad. EXCELLENT Soloist in the ballad, There were *Gay gasps* abundant. I am very impressed with the vocal improvement from year to year, and taking Vocals away from North Central and Carmel?!?! WOW! CONGRATS! Don't consider this a loss FC, You took the biggest caption, and competed like a true powerhouse. Your sweep at Ben Davis was a HUGE accomplishment as well! What a season. Taking Large Mixed, Single Gender, and Concert Choir when North Central is in attendance is SO MAJOR.
Another great year for Indiana show choir. I would have loved to have seen LC and Center Grove in attendance, but.... Maybe another year.
Lol. I guess rules are made to be broken. Posting issma scores is Numero uno
Whose Rules? ISSMA isn't a government agency. It's an association that a school either chooses to belong to or not. If you as a private citizen have access to information that they handed out but didn't want published - That's a "them problem" not a "you problem".
I feel its been discussed on this site multiple times and places but ISSMA's scoring and judging for show choir has always been bordering on the "fishy" side. I feel that's why more and more choirs feel less of a need to compete at state.
Groups like: Center Grove, Huntington North, Lawrence Central, Carmel (in the past), and I'm sure many others.
Don't forget that ISSMA gives 60% of weight to vocal scores, leaving 40% for visual.
So: a strong vocal group that isn't as clean, or as interesting/exciting visually, will generally finish better than a great stage show with just average vocals.
(which may not be the case at individual competitions, where a school or organization may decide to go 50/50 or something else)
Of course, ISSMA qualifying events also must use this same standard of judging.
BTW, I didn't pay a lot of attention this year. Where was Lawrence Central?
LC has not participated in the ISSMA finals for a couple of years...for many of the reasons that other notable choirs choose not to participate.
Scores are helpful. It's easier to swallow New Castle winning when it is in the context of them having extremely high vocals, despite their visual scores.
Now the question is why those vocal scores are so high. Didn't see them this week, so I can't say why they were so good this week...but I'd venture to say based on previous weeks, visuals are way closer to what's in line for what's been happening lately with placements.
