Wow, surprised by the women's results considering Descants had been doing very well this season. Regardless of state losing its powerhouse stature, I am happy Indiana choirs are spreading their wings into other states. It has proven to make for interesting competitions and a new mix, considering Indiana choirs had a tendency to stay in state in previous years.

Only reason they split in the first place was to make more money. They had lots of applicants and thought two competitions make more than one. Now that enrollment has plummeted to where they're now accepting any school that applies, they're losing money on two events instead of one. I find it humorous and kind of feel like they're getting their due.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion but statements like "Only reason they split in the first place was to make more money" seems inflammatory rather then productive to correcting the situation that now exists.
As others have pointed out, football, basketball, and most other team sports have a class system in place in Indiana. Band contest has had a class system since the first All-State Band contest in 1973, although they had 3 classes then and went to the current 4 class arrangement in 1981. I believe other states also have class systems for their show choirs, some based on school size and some on choir size from what I have heard.
I can think of a number of possible reason why ISSMA went to classes in show choir but since I have no knowledge or access to ISSMA, I prefer not to speculate. Like any organization (except the federal government, it seems), I am sure ISSMA has to be concerned about maintaining a balanced budget. However, the class contest system for most team activities seems to be well established in Indiana as well as other places.

Yep you're right. Ppl have called for changes to the system for years, and issma has only done the opposite of helping the situation.
Well at LEAST North Central has another GC trophy for this year.lol Prior to state they were coming off of a loss to Bishop Luers, and had not won yet this year. Now they're STATE CHAMPS!!!

I pretty much agree with how you have them ranked, but I'd put in Warren Central. They got best vocals over Center Grove this year, and were placed higher vocally than Ben Davis and North Central when they competed against them at the Giant Spectacular / Ohio Valley Showcase.
I love WC, but only because of their vocals. I'm sorry to disagree with you man, but I think the choreo and show design for WC leaves them out of my ranking. They did sound fantastic at BD though. Vocally they're in my top 5, Unfortunately that's not all that matters.
Well it's just ridiculous. I don't think Lafayette Jefferson even made a Finals this year, and they can now say "Number 4 In the state!!!"
If the other groups in Indy had attended these results wouldn't look at all like that. It would have been more like this...

I'm glad that some of the other choirs got a chance to perform in a Finals, but come on... It's just getting ridiculous. I mean Franklin Central wasn't even DOING anything this weekend and they were just like .... "Eh, We'd rather not...."
The idea of ISSMA is good but they refuse to change. The scoring is horrible.
It's gotten to where once we make state, we simply accept that we're going to a competition that we'll just have to find it in ourselves to give the best show we can, regardless of what's going to happen during awards. Last year our girl's group went from what I believe was the third or fourth qualification score to dead last, by a landslide, and the comments from the visual judges made absolutely no sense. They got in the 50-ish range out of 200 from both judges, for their best show of the year. The show that they got their qualifying scores from wasn't as strong and had choreo scores twice that. And because ISSMA basically hosts the day as two separate competitions, our mixed choir (which had several doubles) had to recover from that slap in the face in time to perform our own show. No matter what any choir might say about how the results don't matter and what does matter is that we gave our best show, but those results were a complete shock to everybody. We had people from other schools tell us that they thought the results didn't make any sense.
They are currently testing a sheet which adds a third category in both vocals and visuals that judges show design, creativity, etc. That could change some things up if it is actually approved for official ISSMA use, but its hard to tell at this point.
