Silver Medal
Quick question about New England show choir competitions.. why do they give bronze, silver, and gold medals? If they announce placements anyway, what's the point of these medals? Just curious.
Also, I just went back and watched some of the livestream. The audience was so supportive and energetic at this competition, it was awesome to see. And I LOVED Marysville's show!
It’s an additional accolade to strive for. Usually Bronze is 69% and lower of the points, silver is 70-84 and gold is 85+. That’s how some comps do it. So shooting for a gold gives a group who doesn’t win something else to motivate them and inspire them. It’s been a tradition since show choir began up here.
Little breakdown of the large mixed division (Of you haven’t gotten the chance to see these shows I highly recommend checking them out):
Somerset: The vocals of this group have really grown and I absolutely love the show design. You can tell every person is completely invested on stage and that they love doing what they are doing. The closer was so fun and sounded so clean. The ending inversion got me out of my seat so fast for the ovation.
Andover: Vocals, vocals, vocals! I loved the last three songs so much as well. The award given to the brass section is so well deserved because the dance breaks were so energized and fun to watch along with the choreo given. Back to my initial point this groups vocals are outstanding. They blend so well together and the dynamics throughout were so crisp. The two soloists in song 4 were both outstanding got people excited in the audience.
Fantasy: I mean what else is there to say about these regular stars up here. From vocals to choreo to their creative show design they never fail to impress. The soloists throughout brought up the show so well and the choreography with Pandora’s box was so interesting. It’s always so impressive how they are consistently at the top of the game in New England. This group is smaller then some years previously but it really does not make a difference for their vocals. The blend along with the complicated arranging really showed that they earned that top spot among New England groups at this comp
Encore: I can go on about Tantasqua for so long but I’ll try to keep it brief. I say it so much that this group always gets better at every show. They have the most creative ideas and show design and watching them is always a pleasure. They have this energy and fun to them that makes it so I wish the show never ended. The choreo is so clean and fun and that fourth number rocks! The pure emotion that this group showed during and after the show really represents what show choir is about. Especially after everything that these kids have been through
Marysville: Of the three shows I’ve seen of Marysville this is my favorite. Everything about them encapsulates what we are told about Midwest show choir. The choreo was so difficult and complex but made to look effortless and the complexity of the show design made the story really flow in the time given. Also having the Jeremy Alfera as your director really shows in the arrangement and vocals, this group can sing! Ill say it again can someone send me the link to those glowing risers asking for a friend lol. So amazing congratulations on the win!
Overall amazing festival by Waltham I had a great time!
Fantasy too! WOW!!!! I’ve never seen them perform with such energy and cleanness before. They really brought it!! Encore is next. This will be close I think!
