I actually liked the videos a lot better this year. I don't remember if it was the same video company. I bought videos at Powhatan and Hanover and skipped Manchester...I got a t-shirt instead. Manchester said they had a new sound system installed shortly before the competition. If it's the same video we watch right after we compete, I thought the sound quality was much better this year.
And lastly, I would like to give a huge THANK YOU to our wonderful choreographer and show designer, Ryan. You have really helped make this happen for us. I am so glad to have you as my teammate.
Spotlight had never finished higher than 3rd place/2nd runner up before this year, so they are doing awesome!
I've also enjoyed seeing Menchville grow, too! Unfortunately, I haven't seen one of your shows since I've graduated in 2008, but it is apparent from how well you have been doing at competitions that you guys are doing great things! I have a feeling you will make your way into the A division very soon!
Also--I meant to mention this earlier. Was anyone else surprised that Thomas Dale didn't place? I thought they had a very solid show and should have been in the top 4.
i only got there just in time to catch the last four groups. i thought it was going to be cosby, martinsburg and dale one two three. i was a little surprised when dale didn't get anything but that's how it goes sometimes. but if anything else, at least knight scene has two weeks to get "better" before kecoughtan.
cosby was definitely legit. the show was pretty awesome, i'm not gonna lie. and not to mention yall do have the best band now. nancy is pretty much a musical genius.
I would just like to add that my adorable little sister, Samantha Mabry, won Best Soloist in the Girls Division for Matoaca. Congrats to her, second year in a row!
I always love her solos. Actually, I've always just loved hearing her sing in general, because she has not only a beautiful voice, but a strong one, capable of easily holding parts entirely on her own. Tis absolutely astounding.

I think Cosby is such a great choir. I'm glad to see things going well for them.
Thomas Dale...I could definitely have seen them in the mix. They sounded really great. I have to say...I was inspired by their 2008 closer "You Give Love a Bad Name", so the year after that I found this really great closer for my 2009 show, "Livin' On A Prayer/It's My Life". Thomas Dale's fourth number this year? "Livin' on a Prayer". I'm sure the inspiration didn't go both ways...most A choirs have never seen us...but it was a really cute situation.

Come on Erynn, you are usually right on! How did you miss that!
I'm especially embarrassed because this is one of my favorite groups. But hey...we all make mistakes. Also, keep in mind, it is a LOOOONNNNGGG day for B groups...I was tired, and we live fah-fah away. Please accept my apologies. Your show was amazing and totally memorable.

Really, that's your first grand champion trophy? In my mind's eye, you have a whole shelf full of them. Congratulations on this great event for you all. I'm excited to have seen you all grow from the beginning and come all this way. The victory was much deserved. Great job!
Congratulations Spotlight! I couldn't be more proud of how well the group is doing this year. It seems so perfect that the seniors this year were just freshman the first year that Cosby opened in 2006, and now they have their first GRAND CHAMPION trophy!!
Also, congratulations to Menchville!
I wish everyone luck in the rest of their competitions.
Didn't Matoaca get 3rd? I thought Amherst was 4th. Anyone remember? That's what I remember. Matoaca was sitting right in front of us, and I remember them cheering, but I also remember Amherst getting something right before that.
I was extremely impressed with LC Bird today. I don't know if I could have done what they did, and I was on the verge of tears the entire time. Amazing performance.
I wish I could have seen some other choirs. I was really hoping to catch the groups I'd missed at Powhatan :/
L.C. Bird didn't need a trophy to tell them that what they did tonight was spectacular. Their performance was truly inspiring. I was sitting near my former director during their performance and thinking to myself that if I were in their situation I don't think I would have been able to do what they did.
God Bless L.C. Bird and the Gregory family. I hope everyone continues to show their support by coming out early to see Sudden Image at 2:30.
I agree, but it still should've happened. Even if more cosby people bought programs, the people running the competition shouldve just gave it to them... to be able to go out there... I can't even begin to imagine. If that would've happened to Jamie Barrack... no way on earth could I have sang a note or even been on that stage.
