Well i remember a few incidents where this stuff has happened... Especially between FC and Center Grove, and they still end up competing with eachother, so i wouldn't worry too much about the effect on next year's pike Musicfest.

This same thing happened in 2005 at Huntington North, the points were excrutiatingly close and it was really anyone's game Center Grove was Crowding the front of the stage and sitting on the stairs to the stage (as they usually were at every contest i saw them at) and FC had to fight to get to the stage after they won GC.

The next day this thing blew up with people who are supposedly neutral coming on and Calling Franklin Central kids White trash Hicks and saying that they carried on like they were at a Monster Truck rally... lol. You know the funniest thing about this is that, Franklin Central and Center Grove are practically in the same district... They all know eachother, they shop at the same mall and they're typically the same kind of kids... Middle to upper class white kids... you drive around in CG school district Or franklin township for a few hours you'll forget which is which.

My theory is that they fight not because they're different, but because they're the same... So why can't we all just, Get along??? *cue happy music*.

Anyway, Good luck to those competing at state and to everyone else, good luck the rest of the season.

Dad....that is exactly what this reminded me of!! And classylassie did the same FC bashing on here last time. Can you say "been there done that". Hence where the following year FC comedy's number showchoir.com came from. I wonder IF they will do it again next year????

hmm... a wonderful victory- i think not
I find it interesting that you tell your FC-ers to not respond to any criticism, but then you always respond to criticism to try to make it legit- you arent being a very good example to your students.
and also- its obvious that you have so much admiration for center grove- especially andy haines because a lot of things from your FC show look like CGs last year - way to be creative!
hmm doesnt carroll have a picture of you in their show.. sounds like cg's picture of their choregrapher last year.. again, interesting

Damon Brown is the best choreographer who knows how to win. He is very original in his choreography. Every competition I go to, I am able to sit there and say "oh thats a damon number" He has his own very distinct way choreographing. I find it hard to believe that Damon copied Andy Haines. I also agree with the person who said the people talking about etiquette need to take a lesson in it. FC had every right to leave the balcony because it takes like 10 min. to get to the stage from the balcony. I mean, I stood up and clapped for CG when they were announced. CG has always had an outstanding show. They must have like a minor league for show choir down there in Greenwood. Anyways, I think that everyone just needs to sit back and realize that its just a competition. Your success should not be measured in trophies.

stop this bashing of ANY group. as a senior in pike encoers, i can assure you that this is NOT what pike music fest is about. Pike is not a school that supports any of this. This was easily the best music fest that i have been a part of. There were so many top groups that walked into our building last saturday. F.C. did a great job on-stage (and you cant deny that fact) just as C.G., W.C., Zionsville, and Brownsburg did. Anyone who wants to bash F.C. for having no class, get on stage at State and BEAT THEM. If you want to show that u have class, win and then do all the things you said to do. I compliment NC on having more class than most of the groups here even though they win all the time. At ISSMA concert choir state, they knew they were gonna win but when pike got 4th place, NC gave us a STANDING OVATION. no one asked them to do that. If you want ppl to show class, beat them and show them what to do. Who am i, a pike student, to not clap for ppl above or below me, when Counterpoints can give a standing ovation to a choir whose performance they never got to see. Thats Class. Learn from it. EVERYONE.

As much as i love these boards at times, i think it has gotten way out of hand.

THANK YOU Chris!

I'm going to say this and only this FC great job you won, There was running it's understandable it may have been enthusiastic but I don't be lieve anyone got hurt so let it be, as others said class may be desired but I know everyone gets excited over a win. Yes we did lose by 4 tenths of a point oh well things happen and we can't change them second is not the end of the world and never will be, but I think the judge that placed us fifteen points lower was at least somewhat biased I felt our show went great but we're just not meant to win sometimes. What happened happened calm down and let it be if people think FC needs more class get some more but don't fight back saying we were cocky. I never heard anyone say we were going to win it and we were at the front for lack of seating as zionsville was. So I say let it be

I understand why Center Grove has the reputation of being a very classy performing ensemble, this was a wonderful response and thank you for posting.

There were three groups I saw that were the same level in finals.

To say one or the other got screwed is silly.

The judges had their opinions (just like you!). Just because they didn't have the same opinion you did doesn't mean someone got screwed, doesn't mean the judges were stupid or biased. They just saw things in the show differently than you did.

And to the point of some of you questioning Jim Fronczek's ethics, shame on you.

This is exactly what I was talking about in my previous messages. The fact that only one judge was added caused CGSS to lose. Why wasn't there another judge added to the visual side? The ISMA monitor is supposed to be checking the scores so this type of injustice doesn't happen.

THIS IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS SYSTEM! It is no different from other scoring systems that people complain about. Yet many schools are going to ISMA?

Again, I am asking what is supposed to be so great about this ISMA scoring system. Why do schools want to go to ISMA sponsored state finals? Who benefits?

It really isn't a true state competition because all STATE show choirs are not going. I really don't get it.

And now for my sensitive side:

Congrats to FC for your well deserved win!

Warrne Central-you got screwed

Center Grove-you got screwed more

From all I can see, there has only been one post by a Center Grove member, and every complaint about Franklin Central has been from bystanders who were either in the balcony with Franklin Central at the time, or they witnessed the security people (tech dads, etc.) having to PHYSICALLY FORCE the FC Singers away from the stage after being called.

Center Grove was ahead in the day show by FOUR weighted points, which probably is about the equivalent of fifteen RAW points, which is most likely the number 15 came from.
In finals, Jim Fronczek, a vocal judge added for the night show, placed Center Grove SIGNIFICANTLY lower than any other judge. Fifteen points lower, to be exact. This is what made the difference between the day and night shows.

Without Fronczek judging, the outcome would still have been different than in the day - Center Grove would've been GC and Franklin Central would've risen up to 1RU.

Congratulations to all the groups on very successful shows! Good luck at state!

EDITTTTTTTTTTT
I forgot to add that FC won by .4 points. This equals two raw points.

I know most people don't really seem to give much nod to the chamber ensembles, but I just wanted to say how impressed I was with them Saturday.

I know that I speak for most of my choir when I say how honored and excited we were to make finals, and to compete against such impressive ensembles as Center Grove and Brownsburg. Congrats to my fellow Chamber members on a wonderful competition season

As far as show choir goes...

FC - Nice show. I THINK your female sound needs some work, but that there's a lot of potential there. The opening was the strongest part of the show. Congrats on GC!

CG - I was impressed. Honestly, I DIDNT THINK you had any shot at scoring lower than GC; your tone, blend, visuals, and overall entertaining factor was beyond any group I saw on Saturday...but hey, it's all about opinion. I wasn't loving the ballad, but the soloist was good. I've seen better shows from your ensemble in the past, though I don't mean to detract from your wonderful performance. Nice job.

i dont want to make anything worse, but i was UPSTAIRS with the fc singers and my groupm high voltage, and as the winner of best vocals all of the fc people were dumbfounded and were in total shock. when first runner up was announced, fc let out a few screams, knowing how DARN hard they had worked that day. trust me, i know many of the singers personally, and they were not expecting a win. yes center grove was on the stairs to the stage during the awards, but i do want to mention that even though there was not enough seating for zionsville either, they were AGAINST THE WALL, not on the stairs waiting to storm the stage. i also would like to point out that singers had to make it down 4 flights of stairs. and i watched them, they did not run over people to make it to the stage. yes they were jogging quickly, but wouldnt you? and center grove... i absolutely loooove your show. i cant over get enough of it. i could watch it over and over and nover get tired of it. great job to all the show choirs!! you have put soo much work into your shows...you can really tell!
again. i dont want to cause any more drama. i just wanted to state the facts. and yes, singers might have acted a little un reasonably, but when this has been the best year that fc has ever seen, you kinda have to get a little excited.

Just by posting on here with an opinion is going to get someone aggravated. If you really don't want to "cause drama", stay out of it.

QUOTE(ginetard @ Mar 9 2008, 08:33 PM) 426842
I try not to post much about groups and their classiness because of the sensitivity of the topic, but reading this thread gives me no exception. So here goes.

First off, why are so many people being negative?? Everyone should be congratulating each other on everyone's great performances in what seems like a very close competition. Reading this thread, it sounds like Franklin Central got a little out of line during the awards, but every group has their share of craziness. If I read correctly, Center Grove was ahead by 15 weighted points after prelims (not sure if its true), but if it is, that is a very large deficit for anyone to overcome, especially over a top-notch group CG.

So, put yourself into FC's perspective. Maybe they thought they had a very slim chance to win. Maybe they felt disappointed in themselves for their first performance. Maybe they were ready to accept defeat. Then out of nowhere, CG is announced first runner-up, and FC's name has yet to be called. How would you react in that situation?

Now, yes. It is disrespectful for a group not to congratulate or applaud the groups they competed with, but I bet they stood up and clapped for every other group before CG was announced.

I am not trying to defend FC for what happened. I just think that some people are overreacting about what happened.

But for anyone from FC getting mad at CG for their reactions, put yourself in their shoes. They were probably stoked after prelims. They probably gave a heck of a performance for finals to secure their victory. They were probably ready to storm the stage for their championsip. Then...they are announced first runner-up. I know for fact those kids were completely heart-broken, disappointed, angry, etc. They probably felt like they had been cheated. That hurts. I mean that really hurts.

For them to have the class they had that night is truly astonishing. They should be proud of themselves in every way in knowing that so many people have defended them after last night because so many people love them. But to any of those who posted about FC having no class is just as guilty. If you ask me, no matter how classes a group is, I think it's just as bad for someone to bash a group and say how undeserving they were. That's just nonsense. Every group works hard every week and every year to put on a show for their audience, so it's hard to say that any group is undeserving on any night.

I bet both groups practice nothing but class, it's just that sometimes groups get carried away with adrenaline. So after a very long post, congratulations to all performing groups. ALL of you should be proud for your efforts on and off stage. Thank you.

Exactly what had happened.
During prelims fc had given the best performance theyhave done all year(or so they thought) going into finals they were very dissapointed to know they were in 3rd place behind 15 points

So in finals they thought they would be 2nd or 1st runner up so u could imagine how excited they were to know they pulled off this win. This is the most championships fc has ever won in the history of the school which added to this excitement that one judge did not put fc in first yes he helped but 3 of the judges had fc in first. So I'm sure they are sorry they were so excited but it was the most unexpected victory of the year so put yourself in their shoes

I just want to say GREAT JOB to all the FC Singers out there!!!!!!!!
Dont worry about what everyone else is whinning about on here! You guys are amazing.

(and besides that you had to jump over the CG kids who were already on stage before the awards started) Some people just dont know that their is a difference between excitment and cockyness.

WAY TO GO GUYS AND GALS

Center Grove was sitting on the floor on stage left in front of the stage due to lack of seating. Just as Zionsville was doing on stage right. To imply that it was anything other than this is sheer ignorance - someone LOOKING for trouble.
STOP IT.

It is time for this topic to come to a close - we get it. We get that a lot of FC people behaved very poorly, we get that NO ONE copied ANYONE else's show, we get that a vocal judge was added who put FC 15 points about every single group and the remaining four groups with THREE POINT EIGHT POINTS of each other and that's why the results were different at night, and we get that no one is happy. Everyone needs to MOVE ON.

Franklin Central - Good luck at state.
Center Grove and Zionsville - Good luck at FAME.
END OF STORY

Franklin Central:
Great job! That's four wins this year. Much better than last year. Next up is State. Good luck!

High Voltage:
Wow. What a comeback. Especially since the performance for parents the day before was so low-energy. Amazing job. Good luck at State, as well!

Carroll High School:
Oh my gosh. I love your show. You’re totally my favorite group. Wow. I've been bouncing around for the past two days doing the dances to the rain song (Is it Heaven's Rain or Healing Rain? Holy Rain, maybe?) and the Show Choir Lament and the Charleston song and the boat song. (Why didn’t I just say “dances to the whole show”? " border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> ) I usually don't like ballads, either, but I love yours. And the opener soloist is awesome. (Isn't that Chandler from the lament? Poor Chandler. P.S. I'm an alto! " border="0" alt="kiss.gif" /> Ha ha!) I can't believe you didn't make finals. I was about to cry.

Great job to Carroll’s ladies! I hope I get a chance to see you at State!

Is the mixed group coming for support? I want to find the guy that opens the Lament and ask for an autograph. He’s awesome! All the soloists were amazing, too. And someone has got to teach me the choreography for the second number. I’ve tried to do it, but I look like an idiot.

If anyone has Carroll’s show on DVD or something, please message me. I want it. Really bad.

Everyone did great. I didn’t get to see very many shows at that contest, but most of the choirs there I had seen before. Everyone deserves a gold medal, no matter the placements!

Much love,
Singer Girl
