the justification for guaranteeing a bid to finals for small groups (i think) is that they often go earlier in the day, and are therefore subject to lowered scores to save room for better groups later in the day. example: no matter how amazing pascagoula or spain park is, they're not going to get a 99 (or whatever), because clinton is going later in the day and they can't get any higher than a 100. so, if you pick finalists based solely on scores AND have the small groups perform earlier, then they start out at a disadvantage.

i agree

Hey, yall! Congratulations to everyone! This must have been an exciting competition.

Clinton - Way to own as usual! Congrats!

Petal - I love ya'll! 1st Runner-up (behind Clinton) really says a lot. I sure wish I could have seen ya'll one more time. I love your opening song and outfits. Great job!

Homewood - I wish I could have seen your show one more time too. I could watch it over and over again (which is what I will do once I find out who to order a finals DVD from). Way to go Homewood!

Opelika - I agree with your best costumes award. Ya'll are wonderful!

Auburn - Great to see you in finals! I met two of the girls from your group at Opelika and ya'll are so nice. Terrific job!

Can some one help me out? I would like to know who videoed the finals here. Was it ProCat? If so, I want to order my own copy so I can see what I missed.

Again, congratulations to everyone!

3.) I don't think that it's a competition's responsibility to automatically put small groups into finals, although it's sometimes an exciting twist. Ultimately, I believe that it is the judges' responsibilities to make sure that the best groups get into finals, regardless of their division. Whether or not Spain Park should have been in finals above other groups can definitely be argued both ways, but it was clear from the score sheets that the judges were fairly inconsistent over the course of the day. Spain Park was scored in the middle of the girl's groups; that's not right.

i think if i had a competition, i would have six finals spots (like homewood used to), and give them to the top two groups in each division with two wild card spots. or i would have the mixed groups (small and large) perform during the same time block and then just do the top five scores.

Pascagoula, thanks so much for the support! It was really great to look out into the audience and see so many of y'all there cheering us on. Those are the kinds of things that make show choir worth all of the hard work and controversy.

Well thank y'all for being nice and representing the south so well. Good luck to y'all next year and any performances to come. You better believe i will come back to watch South Central Classic next year!

I'm almost pretty sure (correct me if I'm wrong) that there were 2 groups from the A division competing in finals at Opelika. It was Pascagoula, and I think West Jones.

Yes... Pascagoula and West Jones were in the Finals... however, the qualification for Finals at Opelika was the 5 highest scores regardless of division. The top A group wasn't guaranteed a spot (unless you consider that there were only 4 AA groups... lol).

At Homewood, the Grand Champion of the A and AA divisions get automatic bids into finals. However, 4 of the 5 finalists still came from AA. The only A group in finals was Pascagoula "Impact".

Were the five finalist spots taken from the top 5 scores from A division and AA division? Just curious as to if this was the case, since all 5 finalists were from AA division. Was that the case at Opelika and Homewood this year as well (all finalists coming from AA category)? I apologize for not being up -to -date.

Enterprise was amazing competition all around. It was Ahead of schedule, I mean, how often does that happen. I'll say this, and leave it here, Petal brought it. Seriously. Yesterdays performances was the best I've seen Petal all year. Bottom line.
