i think their closer was, "bring the house down", and i cant remember their guy number, but their girl number is a new madonna song if i'm not mistaken..? and their opener was a former GCS opener as well I believe.
the girls number was the song Hung up by Madonna
ballin the jack was in there somewhere
and I feel like the balald was about hereo never dying? but that might have been someone else.. its all a bit of a show choir blur
I had so much fun at Johnston this year! congrats to every group , they were all amazing!
Cedar Rapids: oh my gosh! just wanted to say that your show was stunning! everyone was trying to figure out where your hats came from! and Id love to know who you work with for costuming beacuse they were all gorgeous , especially the teal ones used in the opener
By the way, is anyone noticing tha the boys are outperforming alot of the girls numbers this year? Wuakee guys with the chairs=HOT! and the Johnston boys medley was really good also
P.s. the snack bags were such a nice thing for Johnston to give!!
I'm horrible at remembering song titles and stuff, but I know they did "Ballin' the Jack" and a GCS ballad from about that same time period.
Note: Not commenting on the fact that they are former GCS numbers....just factual info here folks and that is partly why I remember the songs.

Johnston this year was a great competition. For all the people who said that the competition level was down this year (cough - Jorge - cough), you couldn't have been more wrong.
I'm glad to hear I was wrong on this one.
West should have returned to this one, no mistakes were made!
Johnston this year was a great competition. For all the people who said that the competition level was down this year (cough - Jorge - cough), you couldn't have been more wrong. Every group that was in the finals was outstanding and there were a couple of groups that very easily could have made finals. Many of the parents from my group were shocked that Waconia didn't make finals yesterday, but I don't know who they would replace.
Waukee and Valley were both very much improved from the last time I saw them. Iowa City West always sings beautifully. C.R. Jefferson was as good as usual. Their tap was super clean. I didn't get to see Bloomington-Jefferson, but I'm sure I'll get to check you out at Totino though.
I have to comment on the host choir though. Johnston "Innovation" is really, really, really good this year. Their guys number is super fun and with a little more precision on the vocals that number would be unbelievable. They perform with such passion and fun though. I was singing their closer for hours after the competition ended. I loved how cool the soloist looks at the beginning sitting on his stool with all the girls reclining on the stage below him while the sax plays that sexy opening riff. Then the whole choir comes on stage and just blows the roof off the place with powerhouse vocals and sharp, impressive choreography. It's one of those songs you've seen done 100 times before, but when a choir really does it well it's new and fresh again. Congratulations, Johnston. I predict a very successful year the rest of the way for you.
Oh...and I finally got to meet ornryactor in person.
GC: Urbandale - sweeping vocals, chor., and band
1RU: Waukee
2RU: CR Jefferson
3RU: IC West
4RU: Bloomington Jefferson
5RU: WDM Valley
I'm sorry I don't know any of the other results - so hopefully someone else can fill in everything else!
Waukee placing second isn't a surprise to me. Seeing their show last year, you could just tell that there was something about them, that some day they would be a force to reckon with. Well, that day was apparently yesterday!
Congrats to Urbandale... from talking to certain people at Milton with connections at Johnston's competition... there was no debate that Urbandale was the best!
Do you know the results from middle school and prep? Also, what about best soloists?
Sorry, I was working at the middle school, so I don't know what the results of the divisions in the high school were.
Best Male Soloist was a well-deserving Adam Bogh from IC West (for "When You Come Home").
Best Female Soloist was Dallas Norton from WDM Valley (for "Better").

Actually you are incorrect. I really was talking about 2005 where the results were:
GC: Urbandale
1RU: Ankeny
2RU: CR Washington
3RU: CR Jefferson
4RU: WDM Valley
5RU: Waukee
Idk if UNL changed the date of their competition after 2005, but i definitely know what I am talking about.
Didn't mean to accuse you of not knowing what you were talking about! I was just asking - seriously...
I actually had to sit down with a calendar, and thinking back to Ankeny's shows - I remember 2005 was when they did Peace of Mind as their opener, and was only their 2nd year with the James & Dean team -and you're absolutely correct, it WAS indeed 2005! So I missed it by a year - sue me... it just means I'm old and forgetful, please don't rub it in any more! Sad thing was, I was AT this particular contest and totally forgot the year. Better luck next time I guess!
