Greg you're a nerd...don't you have college to attend?
maybe I'm just depressed seeing as no1 actually in our show choir presently cares enough to learn about other show choirs we'll get to meet.
Sup, everybody, I'm Jeremy Gussin, one of two senior men in GTC.
If I had an awsome "footer", it go like this
for IC West Goodtime Co.
Best Props-Linn Mar 2007 Grand Champions Keokuk 2006 (haha whoot)
and personally... All-State Solo Finalist 2004
even if no one cares, I want to feel better about myself...ooh and I got accepted into college!
Well, yes i do. but seeing as how right now i dont have any clas other than the opera im currently in, I have nothing better to do with my time. Also, I live so close that it is easy for me to see show choirs, so why not?
Awesome! I can't wait to see you guys, I think IC West runs into you twice this year, at johnston and Waconia. Good luck!

Just a little history slash city background...Jefferson is a school in Bloomington, Minnesota, the largest suburb of Minneapolis, which has 2 highschools, the other being Bloomington Kennedy. Kennedy also has a show choir, "Rhythm in Gold." Don't get us confused with Cedar Rapids!
Jefferson Connection is a group of 40 singers and 13 band members, and we're competing in 6 competitions this year. Historically, the Connection has been a major contender in the show choir scene, but recently have had some difficulties keeping up with many of the quickly changing aspects of show choir, like incorporating props, sets, and costume changes. The more recent championships I can remember are from the 2000-2002 Connection; including grand champion at CR-Washington's "mo-Show" in 2000, and the "Branson Jubilee" in 2002, along with many grand championships at Hastings, Totino-Grace, and others, I believe. I recall the group from 2000 won nearly every competition they went to. The Connection Band also has a history of excellence throughout the past decade.
Anyway, we hope to continue this year with some great singing and dancing. We're all very excited for Johnston!

Can anyone tell me anything about groups like Bloomington Jefferson? I've never come in contact with them and would like to know a little bout them.

well seeing as im a member im probably a little bias! Johnston will be our 1st competition this year , but its so hard to tell where we will place. We have many returning members this year (only 3 new girls) which results in strong harmonies- but losing 12 members (our director downsized) has really affected our dynamices. Were not used to having to sing so LOUD to be heard, compared to last year. what else? The so called "curse of Connection" is that we always seem to make 6th place which kinda sucks. Last year we made finals everytime but never placed above 4th. Hopefully with a strong old member base we can make it into finals again. Whats the competion like at Johnston?
p.s. the band is amazing this year
www.johnstonchoirs.com has the schedule for both centers (varsity is at middle school, and prep, 1A is at high school) hope this helps!

1 week left! Ms. White told me that North St. Paul- Northern Lights, is scratching, I'm not sure how/if this is affecting times though. Good luck to all groups!
The caliber of schools attending is lower than last year... weird.
I hate using those words "lower caliber" in regards to anyone's line up.
A better description would be "different" - which certainly highlights that while it may be a smaller line up (is 40 performing groups really all that much smaller?) there are some new different faces which could be very interesting - Waconia and Bloomington Jefferson. Then throw in CRJ, Urbandale, and Waukee (who is a new Mike Weaver group if I'm not mistaken - with the arrival of Lewis Central's old show choir director), and goodness knows what IC West might pull out with all those All-Staters.
I have absolutely no predictions at all - this is one grouping of schools that could go any way (though that being said - some schools are going to have to step it up to nip at Urbandale's heels). I'd almost take that kind of interesting line up over a "higher caliber" line up any day! I mean, I suppose it could be interesting if Attache was there - but we know they'd be more or less a shoo-in to win, so where's the fun in that?

yea each year there seems to be a different selection brought. aside from Urbandale, and the des moines schools, its been up in the air as far as whose been here. (totino has made there way over a few times, and Jefferson used to always be a contender but this will be their first time back since 2004, alongside Lacrosse, and Mt. Zion who came within the last 5 years.)
That aside, last year Johnston welcomed 50+ groups in it's two buildings, and is holding strong with 40 some this year, which should be interesting with the construction at the middle school
ALSO www.johnstonchoirs.com has a list of all choirs competing in both centers
Totino isn't attending here, so I can't rely on Ana to ask this...
Any word on the judges for this competition?
i was told the judges however for some reason i was never too into names of clinitians and directors of other schools so i completely forgot. however, i will ask ms white and write them down this time! i do remember her saying something about lewis centrals director coming however, along with Randy Sage. (she likes to get different directors every year so I thats another reason I can never remember).
So Ms. White sent out the schedule before break, however she got a mass amount of e-mails saying they hadn't received them- so me and her spent a huge amount of time today colating packets based off of what groups needed what, and the schedules are in them too! I swiped one though so here's the Middle School Center (3A-4A), let me know if you want the High School Center (middle schools, preps, and 2A)

I got to see the initial schedule on Thursday. It's going to be a really good competition. Especially in the 4A division, there are some familiar faces and some brand new ones. All told, there are 42 choirs coming at the moment. That's a bit smaller than the 50+ of the last few years, but the middle school (the primary competition venue) is under renovation, so there is a lot less space to work with, which means fewer choirs got accepted. To the great fortune of the audience members, though, the former library (immediately east of the auditorium entrance) is now a shiny new cafeteria! No more trekking two-thirds of the way through the building and down odd hallways in order to find the old cafeteria...
Schedules should be mailed out early this week, for whoever is wondering. You'll have it before you go on Christmas break.
by the way.... thanks for telling us who was coming....
