I never got a chance to buy one I was too busy enjoying the show choir life...haha.

I think Tom was simply stating that the groups that North St. Paul placed behind are groups that have done well in the past, so it shouldn't be a surprise that they are continuing to do well. He was suggesting the groups placed above them yesterday simply BECAUSE of past records.
But who knows- Tom's past record is pretty lame.
Ribiko, thank you for your kind words, and also your honesty. I had very sincerely hoped that this season would bring a friendlier spirit of competition, and some genuine support between local groups- things I know our students wished for as well- and yesterday was a bit of a let down in that regard. The number of ridiculous rumors being spread around about our group... no folks, our girls are given money every week which they must use to go tanning. Look onstage- it's pretty pale up there- it's WINTER! And no, they don't pay $5,000 to be in our group- although, that would pay for a lot of tanning.
Furthermore, it's odd to me that people around here love it so much when we don't win- simply because we go to difficult competitions and have a difficult show- so quite frankly, we don't win all that often. Nor is it our singular focus to do so. Our show is a continuing work in progress, as our students develop their musical knowledge and abilities, as well as their performing abilities. Our goal is to perform the show to its fullest potential and grow as musicians and performers. I don't quite get why that puts a huge target above our heads. Trust me everyone, if you're doing this whole show choir thing because you want to win, there are MUCH BIGGER fish to fry around this country than Totino-Grace. We do well and work hard, but we aren't at the top of this game, nor have we ever been- we're working just like all of you are.
Oh my, I really hope we didn't make you guys feel that way. I think our happiness of winning might have come off as in we were glad we beat you. But that's not true. If you haven't noticed we don't always do as well we'd like to. I think at least for the part of choir that I represent we were just so happy to have done well for ourselves. And for our director who just wants to see us succeed. I'm just happy to have the chance to compete with a choir of your caliber. Hopefully success will occur for both of us next week.
Exactly... competition placements should never be decided or even partially based on previous years records.
Well lets see what I can do...
Bloomington Kennedy - Congratulations! Mr. Warren couldn't stop raving about your show before we went on, and it was really fun to watch. For the past two years I have titled "Get Out of My Dreams Get Into My Car" my Main Number One Jam. I was joking. However, for you guys to perform it that well was terriffic (personally I don't know if I could keep a straight face singing "Get out of my dreams (get in the back seat baby)." I was singin along, I was clappin, I was snappin, I loved it. You ballad was very well sung and the blending sounded spot on. Soloist was fantastic. Both of the Carwash soloists were absolutely mind blowing, the first one I thought should have one best soloist. Also the "Grease Lightning" soloist was perfect. The harmonica soloist should have gotten an award for whatever just because he rocked so hard. I wasn't suprised by the results, you guys are great. Overall your show started with a ton of energy and just kept building and building to become an amazing time. And this was only your first competition! You guys will be huge this year.
Totino - Anyone who was talkin smack about you is just stupid. I think you guys are the nicest choir out there. I loved your show, I thought you guys outsang Kennedy. I couldn't really tell about choreography because I was so close to the stage, but I thought you guys should have won. I think a lot of people were expecting the big "Totino Novelty" with copious amounts of props, and that just isn't the show this year. The Chicken song was tons of fun, and basically I just had a great time watching your show.
Bloomington Jefferson - I thought you guys danced really well, I don't really remember much of your show because of that blur from watching too many choirs...but I do remember liking it a lot. You guys have great facials and really seem to love performing. That shows, and makes it more fun for the crowd.
North Saint Paul - I was so impressed by your show. It was fun to watch, seemed well sung and well danced. I was really glad to see you perform. I didn't see all the groups, but I could see you guys further ahead than you were placed, but there's nothing you can do about placing. Keep having a great time, and your soloist does a great job.
East Side Swingers - This was my biggest shock of the show. I loved it. Your choreography looks so much more difficult than most A groups, and I couldn't believe how much sound you put out. I loved watching it, it seemed very Broadwayesque. I can't believe you didn't place, I assumed after hearing the first two announced you had taken 1st.
Random things -
I loved the microphones in the host rooms
I had a great time during the shout dance party
The front of your stage is tiny
The judging looks a little sketchy
This competition had a great lineup!
This is gonna make it MUCH harder to predict next week's "Swingin on the River" results
Hey! I think I am the only Bloomington Kennedy kid on here but whatever..
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone supporting us and thanks to Eau Claire for hosting us! Fabulous, just fabulous. I bet the decision was crazy hard for the judges all the choirs never cease to AMAZE me.
But, anyways, I was wondering where we can purchase DVDs of finals online. That'd be great to know..Thanks!

Okay I'm finally recovering from Winterfest Week...
First of all, thank you for your comments about Old Abe. We worked really hard this week (with only 1/3 of our band) and your critiques mean a lot.
CRITIQUES:
My placings were very different:
GC: Totino-Grace
1RU: Hastings
2RU: BK
3RU: BJ
4RU: Fort Atkinson
5RU: Holmen Girls
Kennedy--Wow. Shocker. I was totally blown away that you guys won. You have a really entertaining show that is just fun to watch as a opposed to a very clean show such as Totino's. I loved the ballad...very good. Overall, I had Totino ahead of you guys but still, good show.
Totino-Grace: Clean show! Vocals were crisp and dynamic...Loved it all. Chicken soloist was amazing. As was the "raise the roof" soloist. Orange-Colored Sky--Great number-I loved the hats. The police at the end was funny! Great, clean, show. You guys look 10 years older on that stage. Be proud....Speaking of proud:
Jefferson- Mature sound...Proud was choreographed beautifully. I liked the idea of doing candyman but the soloists needed to get closer to the mic. Good costuming in general. One criticism: September got kind of bland after a while...mostly IMO because you looked like you didn't like the song. OTHERWISE--GREAT JOB.
North St. Paul- Good show at a seriously hard comp if i do say so myself. Loved the show but I do agree you got the spot that was deserved. Letters from War was good but the overdiction was very pronounced... Choreography during "Let's Dance" was energy-less. However Tara Tober's choreography is very effective. "Slap that Bass" was very cool. Another note of Let's Dance: Were you purposefully saying Daaaahhnce instead of dance? It's evident you love your show this year when you are on stage...Translate that into some hard rehearsal work and you'll have a great rest of the year.
Chippewa Falls- Second time I've seen your show. You guys were missing a lot of kids today but you made up for it. Cool show. Love the closer...How can I put this: A very suggestive show but also fun. Keep up the good work.
Hastings--Another good showing from you guys. I got to talk to a couple of you guys and your just nice people who work hard and that's really great. I had you higher that BK, actually. Good job.
Altoona- loved hosting you guys! Your opener is gorgeous. Great blend...Work on uniformity with choreography but otherwise great work.
Any comments on our performance would be appreciated. Thanks for comin' to Winterfest and we hope to see you all next year.
First off, thank you EAU CLAIRE for making this competition so much fun! it was really well run, and i had an awesome time!
I would also like to thank everyone that supported Midwest Magic. We didn't expect to make finals, and we were hoping we would atleast get 3rd place in Class A. Our Uhaul was packed and we were all loaded to go, so it was a huge surprise that we won. I still can't believe it, there were soo many good groups! It was so awesome performing for you in finals, we were all sooo psyched! I really hoped you enjoyed our show!
I loved loved loved everyone that performed in finals! You were all amazing and deserved the spot. It was a fun competition and definetly one I won't forget! THANK YOU!!

As results go, I was surprised, but not in complete shock. I really enjoyed Kennedy's show, and they did an amazing job. We were a little sad, like usual, but I think what really made it worse was the negativity that followed afterward. I heard some groups chanting, "Totino didn't win, totino didn't win!", dissing our school, dissing our show right in front of us, and nearly trampling one of our members while Kennedy was celebrating. It hurts to be put down--you all know that. As a choir, we do our best to be good sports the whole time, at the comp and back at home. For some reason there is some anger towards our group, and I was hoping that someone could explain it to me so I could pass that on to the rest of the group?
Anyway, congratulations to everyone, because every show that I saw was really quite good. Its amazing what a few years can do to increase the talent of every group. I can't wait to see a lot of you at Hastings next weekend. It's bound to be another good competition.
Katy
I'm really sorry to hear that...it's true that some people and groups perceive Totino as arrogant and that you go "overboard" on costumes and props. But your shows are always new, funny, and deserve all the points you get. Totino is a truly a powerhouse show choir, and it's all too easy to become embittered about a group you think no one will ever beat...thus perhaps some people's indecorous glee at your placement at Winterfest. I have the greatest respect for you guys and your program; you're nothing but good sports. Actually, last year at Waconia (I was in our prep group), a Company mom helped me get a really bad makeup stain out of my dress. I was in the bathroom, frantically scrubbing and really upset about it, and she calmed me down and got the foundation out completely (and even offered to let me use your guys' steamer). There's no doubt in my mind that you're all just as considerate (after all, I've never heard a Totino person say that the show choir world would end if Eau Claire beat them, which cannot be said for at least one of our competitors ) and I'm looking forward to seeing you again at Hastings.
NSP- I watched your show and it was by far better than past years, but to be honest i feel you recieved your spot. The groups above you are extremely good groups with past records to back that up. Keep your heads in the game and you'll get better and better
-Tom
wow that was aggressive, instead of saying that like you did, you could have told us what it was that earned us that spot, It should never be based off of previous years, it should be based off what happened this year! PM me with suggestions
OMG! Totino didnt get GC, I unfortunately missed Rhythm in Gold, but i heard the combo and i can see why they got best band, but I thought Totino was amazing, but that means Kennedy was even better! what other comps is kennedy going to? great job to my friends at totino and jefferson, you all did a good job take that back GREAT job
and great job to everyone in Northern Lights, you all did a great job as well, we will show them at Waconia!!!
Thank you Eau Claire Memorial for an awesome show, everything was neatly run and the Northern Lights hosts, were absolutely amazing, I had a fun time sitting with them in the hallway and they were a good group of people to get along with. Hopefully we come back next year!!
Bilski- It is called Olympic scoring and they throw out your highest and lowest score.
I would just like to say congrats to everyone because yesterday was sure a very tough competition. We were sitting there waiting for awards and we really had no clue where we were going to end up because there were so many groups. Thank you to Eau Claire for putting on an awesome competition. Good luck to everyone for the rest of the year.

One judge changed the scores dramatically, without that judges scores for any of the groups, Totino would have been ahead in every category, and won the competition. The judge had them 5th choreographically, 3rd Vocally, and tied for 5th in the other category.
Like I said before about Totino, I've seen the show this year, and love it! Don't let this get to you, especially in these circumstances!
That said- scores fell as they fell and no one can change that. Obviously Bloomington Kennedy has improved over the years and a big congrats to them.
First off Congrats to Kennedy, Great show, looks like tons of fun to perform. and i have a question for all of you out there who have been to more competitions than me. Is there any competition where in finals the lowest overall judge score is thrown out, to keep the scores more even? I am just asking, im not trying to spark up any riots. Im curious to know, because it seems like im always hearing the the same story, that it was one judge who took them down. and i say again im not reffering to anything at this competition, im just curious to know? any thoughts?
Hastings-well, I love you all. the set is pretty kickin and your ballad was very beautiful. other than that, i'll see you all next weekend!
Bloomington Kennedy-although I felt your show was incredible, I was slightly put off by your group celebrating so much (when you realized you won) that Brian could not get on stage to receiveour trophy. You have incredible talent, and you deserve some props, but wait for the appropriate time.
NSP- I watched your show and it was by far better than past years, but to be honest i feel you recieved your spot. The groups above you are extremely good groups with past records to back that up. Keep your heads in the game and you'll get better and better
Eau Claire- I felt the choir was a shock. I had NO idea when our director said you had immense improvement that your group could have changed so dramatically. Keep the awesomeness up.
