Ashley Mathews, M.A. serves as the Director of Choral Activities at Hillsborough High School, conducting the select Treble Chorale, select Mixed Chorale, 30-voice Concert Choir. In addition to the curricular program, Mathews founded the 30 member extracurricular ensemble, Cardinal Voices, and the 12-voice select Chamber Ensemble. Under her direction, her choirs have been noted to possess, "a rich, mature and vibrant sound" and "impressive maturity in their presence both vocally and visuallyā€¯.
Her ensembles have placed consistently in Superior and Gold ratings at festivals and choral competitions throughout the country and her students have consistently received individual recognition at the Region and All-State levels.
Aside from choral singing and conducting, Mrs. Mathews has been a featured soloist and vocal percussionist on five studio albums as well as compilation albums for the Best of Collegiate A Cappella, Voices Only and Voices Only Forte. She has had the opportunity to perform for the Massachusetts Congress, NYC Pride Parade and at Carnegie Hall. Her expertise as both a member and director in competitive a cappella is in demand as a clinician, choreographer and adjudicator in the high school and collegiate a cappella communities. Mathews holds a Bachelor's Degree in Choral Music Education from the University of Delaware and a Masters degree, summa cum laude, in Music Education with a Conducting Concentration from Montclair State University. She intends to pursue her doctorate in Music Education at Teachers College of Columbia next summer. Her professional memberships include the American Choral Directors Association, New Jersey Music Educators Association, and Central New Jersey Music Educators Association.
In her spare time, she serves as the Musical Director for the Hillsborough Theater Department as well as the Associate Director of Music for the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township. Mathews currently resides in Morristown, NJ with her husband and their golden retriever, Buddy.
