Elena (Ellie) VanderVeen graduated Magna Cum Laude from Anderson University in 2021 with a degree in Music Education and a focus in secondary choir. She is certified in choral, general and instrumental music from ages K-12. She currently directs choirs from grades 6-8, while also co-teaching the other high school curricular choirs. VanderVeen directs the ladies show choir Expressions as an extra-curricular, while also directing the fall musical.
While a student at Anderson University, Ellie studied voice and conducting with Dr. Richard Sowers and performed in multiple ensembles including the AU Chorale, Symphonic Choir, Gospel Choir, Handbell Choir, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Orchestra as a clarinetist/saxophonist. She also served as a director for the Our Town Plays Community Theatre Troupe in her hometown of Franklin, Indiana. VanderVeen is a member of the Indiana Choral Directors Association and the Indiana Music Education Association.
Ellie is a recipient of the ISSMA American Dairy Association of Indiana Scholarship, Indiana Music Education Association’s Outstanding Future Music Educator Award, Anderson University’s Elsie Perdiue Award for Music Excellence and Excellence in Music Education, and the Indiana Association of Colleges for Teacher Education’s Outstanding Future Educator Award.
