Joyce J. Click is a graduate in Music Education from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana and holds a Master of Music Education from Butler and a Master of Science degree from Indiana University with a certification in Special Education. She also is Indiana’s first Nationally Board Certified Teacher in Music. She has taught all 37 years in the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township, which is an urban suburb on the north side of Indianapolis. She has taught music at all levels K-12 and has served as an adjunct college professor at Butler University and DePauw. She recently was named a Grammy Award semi-finalist as the top 25 of 5000 nationally nominated music teachers. She has received numerous awards for her teaching, including Washington Township Teacher of the Year, Semi-Finalist for Indiana Teacher of the Year, Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching, Shining Star Award, and two Lilly Creativity Fellowship. She has written and received more than 80 grants for her school district and was the founder of the Cornerstone Partnership for Visiting Performing Artists in Washington Township, Bells of Unity Handbell Festival, and popular Musical Theater Summer Enrichment Camps.” She currently teaches at North Central High School where she directs five choirs, including the King’s Court Singers (North Central’s madrigal choir), and also directs the Handbell Ringing Club. Her choirs have received superior (Gold Medal) ratings for the past 37 years as well as numerous choirs of distinction award and state finalist awards.
As a performer, she has performed with the Indianapolis Opera Company and in numerous theater productions. She is a frequent contest adjudicator and vocal coach and is Children’s Music Director at St. Mark’s UMC. Mrs. Click is married to Steve Click and they have two adult children.
