Ryan attended Miami University on a vocal scholarship before transferring to The Boston Conservatory, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theatre. While in Boston, Ryan was twice a soloist for the renowned Boston Pops Orchestra, with conductor Keith Lockhart. In addition to performing, he also directed and vocal directed productions for the Conservatory.
Following graduation, Ryan lived in New York City for five years as an Equity actor, performing in theaters across the country, and on a national tour. He studied with some of the country's leading voice teachers before bringing his passion and energy for music and theatre back to his hometown.
Since returning to Cincinnati, Ryan has maintained a busy schedule directing, conducting, performing, and teaching. He was Music Director and Conductor for "Into The Woods" and "The Wiz" at Miami University, and served in the same capacity for Wright State University's production of "The Phantom of the Opera." He has also served for multiple years as Music Director at King's Island. For the past several years, Ryan has been the Director of Fairfield Summer Theatre.
For show choir, he has served as an arranger, clinician, and adjudicator. He has adjudicated competitions throughout Ohio, Indiana, and West Virginia. He and his wife, Erin, reside in Hamilton, Ohio with their son, Emmett.
