Steve Hinz is the Vocal Music Director for Chelsea School District and has been here for over 25 years. During his tenure, he has consistently directed a high quality secondary program, where students learn the dynamic art of singing and performing in various vocal ensembles. He has developed a respected program that has created a large following of loyal supporters who hold high expectations for student performance.
He is the current director of the High School Choirs, Co.C, and general music teacher for Grades K, 1, and 2 at North Creek Elementary. His training includes undergraduate degrees from Viterbo College in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, in Voice Performance, Secondary Choral Music Education, and General Music Education. He also holds a masters degree from Marygrove College in Detroit, Michigan, in the Art of Teaching. Other post-graduate studies include conducting with Dr. Jerry Blackstone at the University of Michigan, choral methods with Dr. Craig Arnold of Western Michigan University, Group Vocal Technique and Choral Methods with Dr. James Jordan at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, and Orff Certification from the University of Nevada - Las Vegas.
Mr. Hinz has been actively involved in Michigan School Vocal Music Association, serving in these capacities:

Besides his busy life of making music with his students in Chelsea, he teaches vacation bible school at St. Mary Church in Chelsea. His quiet time hobbies include gardening, woodworking, and woodcarving. Most importantly, his two daughters bring him more joy than he could have ever imagined!
