Shelley Johnson received her Bachelor’s of Music Education from Indiana. While she was there, she was a member of the Marching Hundred marching band and pep band for the 1976 NCAA National Championship basketball team. Shelley was also a member of the Singing Hoosiers and was involved in many of the choral music performances. In 1980, Shelley was president of the music fraternity at IU. After graduation, Shelley taught at Parkside Elementary and Lakeland High School in LaGrange, Indiana where she directed the marching band. In 1983, Shelley became the vocal music teacher at DeKalb Middle School where she formed the Patriot Connection, the Liberty Connection and the Liberty Belles show choirs. In 1985, Shelley took the vocal music position at DHS where she also serves as Music Department Chair. In 2010 she was rewarded with a Golden Apple from TV21 and an Educator of the Year from the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic. In 2011, Shelley (along with her husband Kent) received the Allen Graber Citizen of the Year award presented by the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce. In 2013, Classic Connection was honored at the Indiana House of Representatives. In 2014, Shelley received the Education Award for Leadership from Ft Wayne Business Weekly.
