I was at the competition and I saw what happened. Show choir is supposed to be positive! I'm never said Preble didn't deserve the title! I'm just saying that sportsmanship is an important part of any competition. Logan of 2011 proved that to GCS if you all remember that catastrophe. I just think that with all the hype that happened then on showchoir.com, groups should learn from it. No need to get upset and defensive, I just wanted to be a reporter. This isn't my first show choir comp, so I know about this site. When I saw no one posted about it, I felt like it was important to share.

Don't shoot the messenger. I'm sorry if the news wasn't positive.

It was a CRAZY comp. Sauk Prairie was so incredible and it was a shock to see them in place the way they did (sorry I forgot the actual results). Unfortunately I didn't see Preble, but no doubt they were deserving. I mean, the judges agreed. Everyone at this point in the season is deserving of winning, because the groups are all so clean (Like Encore: Amazing.). I'm definitely not arguing about the results, because they're unchangeable. I'm not arguing about anything. I'm just saying that groups should stand and be supportive of every group because everyone tried hard, not just the one who ended up winning.

I do understand it was in the heat of the moment though! Just take this into consideration for another comp? No doubt your group is gonna be successful

Just saying this person is definitely not from Altoona.

What's with these competitions?

Anyway, seeing that Mr. Flogel had a group in the division, I would hope he'd know how the other groups did. Hopefully he can provide that information for us.

I'm pretty sure they only announced 1st place. For the A division...

Preble Rendezvous won the Class A division
Hi Kevin,

Do you know the other placements? We need to know all of the awards in order to update the list, or it automatically assigns all the other groups "no placement."

We waited until GCS got their trophy and until the emcee announced us.

We were not cheering because Grand Central Station got second, we were cheering because we then knew we would be Grand champs. Again, no intentions of hurting anyone.

Yes, I understand that. When I was in the group a couple years ago, we did the same thing because of the same reasons. But we still hurt the other groups' feelings (we actually ended up writing them an apology letter). It's just better to wait until they actually announce 1st place.

But it was in the heat of the moment, so it's fine. All a learning experience!

Good luck in your future competitions!

Most every show choir kid has experienced the heart break of not getting the result they had hoped for. Center Stage finally achieved our goal. I've watched members from my show choir cry numerous times. Our celebration was in no way intended to offend anyone and we apologize if it did. Everyone on that stage was experiencing pure joy and happiness and you could tell that if you were there. We respect Grand Central Station and the people in their show choir. Their show was amazing, hands down.

Thank you. It did kinda hurt our feelings so I really appreciate your apology

Alums, we love you but don't argue about us. Like JDL said, It was definitely a surprise competition. But music is so subjective! Ethan, you really misinterpret our group if you say we think we DESERVE to win. This year has been a struggle for us, like many other groups. I agree with John when he said everyone was deserving of winning. But GCS was really impressed by the, dare I use the same description, caliber of the groups yesterday. On to the next competition! As New London's show choir sings, "the show must go on"! For better or worse.

The most important part is that we love show choir! :D Like JDL said, surprises make things interesting!
P.S. New London hosts, we love you! You were so nice and helpful we had a lot of fun!

Wow. I was at the competition tonight and it was not good. GCS placed 2nd, and as soon as they announced them as 1st runner up, Preble (the winners) were going absolutely nuts with cheering. If you would've seen the looks on the kids in GCS, your heart would have broken. One of the parents from Sauk told me, GCS was in 1st in the day round with best vocals (tied with Sauk) AND choreography. The show choir world is so unpredictable!

But really...the sportsmanship of Preble was not good in finals.

I get that, but the way the show choir reacted when they announced GCS as second was disrespectful and rude. I just think that the way you acted probably effected them...I honestly don't know how it wouldn't. Congrats on winning after 4 years, though.

GCS, your show was phenomenal. Like it was said before, the caliber if your show was outstanding and you performed it so well. I know it sucks right now, but you all should be proud of yourselves.

I don't have anything to do with either choir, but I just have to say something here.

All due respect to LaCrosse Central, as we all know they have become THE show choir of Wisconsin, but if I were in a competition where 99% of the world thought no one could touch the top group and we managed to beat them, I would probably go crazy for about twenty straight minutes before even beginning to realize it may be viewed as rude.

Let's face it -- and no disrespect to Green Bay Preble here as they have a great program -- but they're not used to winning, especially against nationally recognized groups. To some it might seem like their reactions were over the top but stop and look at it from their point of view. The unexpected feat they just pulled off and the overwhelming emotions that they were experiencing; when something like that happens, you get so in-the-moment and you forget about everything else. Like I already mentioned, if I were in that position, I would have done the exact same thing. And I guarantee most of you reading this would, too.

So, "John Hansen" (account created after the completion of this competition and only posts made were to downtalk Preble and complain about GCS getting robbed.. hmmm), you can sit there and talk about how rude and disrespectful and classless the Preble kids are and make snarky comments about how long its been since they had won a grand championship. OR you can not be -- hmm, what are the words here -- RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL yourself and realize that the hard work these 14-18 year old kids put into their show paid off in a very big way.

To the GCS kids on here, I am sorry that you did not get the result you hoped for. I have heard more than wonderful things about your show this season.

To the Preble kids on here, ignore the haters and enjoy the good part of this. You will remember it for the rest of your life.

Alright, stepping off my soap box. I probably should have just let this go and not replied, but hey, what fun is that?

In a way, it sounds like you're saying it affected them in a bad way. Perhaps it did, there might have been disappointment. But you can also look at it from a positive and empowering standpoint as well (which is how I choose to look at it), maybe this will just help motivate GCS in the future to put on an even better and more passionate performance.

In general, it appears from several posts that GCS was the "favorite" to win the New London Invitational, yet the "underdog" Preble took top honors instead. If every competition had similar judges, similar score sheets, and similar results, the world of show choir would be fairly dull. The point of having different competitions is to 1) compete against different groups (learn from and be inspired by each other) as well as 2) hear a wide range of different qualified judges' opinions about vocals, choreo, overall show, etc. How else can you improve unless you listen to multiple opinions? So in summary, it looks like Preble earned the victory tonight. And we should look at it in a "wow, show choir is so unpredictable and refreshing" type of way instead of "(insert show choir) should have won" type of way. Show choir is subjective, it always has been and always will. The best thing we can do is embrace it and move on.

WOWZA I love a results shocker and congrats to GB! Having seen all these groups live this year I thought the caliber of GCS's show was far greater then the schools they were competing against today but this just shows you that anything can happen in the crazy and sometimes confusing world we call show choir!
