I'm very happy students and adults have such a well-run and organized forum to discuss show choir throughout the country. I thank the many people involved with this site for this, but it's times like these that remind me why I discourage my own students from becoming involved in online discussions.
Firstly, let me just say that I may be 20 years old, but I am the director of a competitive show choir, and I will conduct myself, as I always do, in a professional manner. This is not meant to spark any conflict, in fact it is meant to halt it.
I share our scores with absolutely no one except the members of my group. You clearly do not fall into that category. And it is also important to clarify that this member is not a Cabell Midland High School member. I would hate for their name to be connected to this individual. They are a great group of kids and I am privileged to know and work with many of them (congrats by the way for your GC this weekend at Capital). This is an alumni of the school who graduated with me and is not connected to Cabell Midland in any way.
I'm used to people trying to demean my name, so this is nothing new. The notion that a teenager could start and run a successful show choir is not at all accepted in this area, and that is unfortunate. We may not be the best choir around, but I'm very proud of my students for their accomplishments in such a brief existence, and the satisfaction I get from seeing their happy faces is worth putting up with this immaturity any day.
Again, congratulations to all groups attending. I certainly apologize for taking up space on this forum for those of you who have no interest in this topic. I thank Teays Valley again for hosting such a wonderful and successful event! Thanks also to Rian and Kevin for not allowing these rumors and false accusations to be spread.

ARTS All-Star Show Choir
for those of you who don't know me, my name is Nick Dailey, i am an alum and still very close supporter of mrs. Riedel's rhythm 'n red show choir of cabell midland high school in ona west virginia where i grew up. I graduated with and spent two years in the choir as co-member with shayne gue, the director of arts all stars. it's come to my attention that Shayne believes that someone he was in class with 2 years ago is up to whatever it is they are up to. I'd like everyone out there to know, that this is MY FIRST POST on this website. i'd also like to state that i'm not necessarily accusing mr. gue of accusing me. but it is ironic that i'm prolly the only guy that graduated with him that might do such a thing. I haven't. I won't. My support lies with Mrs. Riedel and the kids at Midland. I consider them still very close to me and i enjoy watching and hearing about them as they do their best week in and week out, as i can't be there to watch them as i have a group i am a part of my self for college. So let it be known, i won't have Midlands kids drug into this(they are banned from it as far as i know), i won't have Myself drug into it, and DO NOT drag mrs. Riedel into. that woman is a second mother and great life mentor to me and many other kids, and has put up with way more bull crap in the two years i worked with her as a student in my two years than you all will in a lifetime... and i will say that a lot of it was from student(s)! so shayne if you didn't mean me fine, but if you did, come down to fudge creek some time, we can handle it professionally. and stay away from my group... oh and best of wishes on your competition!

Before anymore is said, it was me who thought that ARTS beat Hurricane. I got the information from a source I thought to be reliable. As for Shayne Gue, I know for a fact he wouldn't spread rumors. As a former All Star I have never seen Shayne display any behavior that was short of professional. His integrity as a director should never be put in question. He is a good person and would never say something that he wasn't 100% about. I am sorry for posting that rumor on here. I should have made sure my source was correct before I made that post. Again I am sorry and I express my deepest apologies to Shayne for bringing him into this....
Everyone was awesome at the competition and I wish everyone good luck in their future competitions...
oh, and PS - I can't swear to the identity of show choirfanatic, but I can only think of one person that would actually write something like that, so I apologize if my assumptions were inaccurate. But I'm almost positive that this is not someone from Cabell Midland. I know their director, and she would not condone that behavior.

It is my understanding that the Festival Division, which we entered, is only open to choirs that meet certain specifications (i.e. 28 members or less, 3 years or fewer of competitive experience, etc.). The Championship Division is an open class that any group, no matter the size or experience, could enter. We elected to compete in the Festival Division to compete against groups of similar size and experience rather than against powerhouses such as Findlay and Olentangy.
In my experience as well, the Festival Division is for those groups that cannot usually compete against the bigger championship groups, so I understand where many of you are coming from. I am very proud of ARTS for doing so well in their second year, and I really thank Teays Valley for hosting such a friendly and organized event! Congratulations to all attending groups and best of luck with the remainder of your respective seasons!

Let's take a look at the past Grand Champions of the TV festival Class...
2004-Castle "Knight Sensations"
2005-North "Northernaires"
2006-Olentangy "Keynotes"
2007-Central Crossing "Excelsior"
2008-Lakeland "New Wave"
2009-ARTS "All-Star Show Choir"
The Festival class does have restrictions that Shayne listed above. It is not an open class. The purpose of the Festival Class is really to prepare choirs to perform against larger mixed groups in the future. Castle, Olentangy, and Lakeland all have made finals this year. Consider the Festival Class a "launching pad" for choirs that are trying to work their way up the ladder. Hopefully this continues for ARTS and the future choirs that compete in the Festival Class.

No you do have to fit certain categories. Choirs younger than 2 years, 26 members and under, or the majority of the choir is made up of underclassmen. You are misguided. I know for a fact that the grand champ of festival class beat 3 championship groups in prelims. I would say they could have competed just fine with the other groups.
No. But the choir has to fit into certain categories. Such as, younger than two years or less than I think it was 30 members.
I know from experience that usually the first and second places in Festival Class could certainly compete with the bigger choirs. We do it all the time.
Actually in conversations I have had with other directors that isn't true. Festival division in most if not all competitions is for those groups that just aren't up to competing with the other groups.
