Even though I participated in this competition, in MiM, I don't remember most of the other choir's themes. Could someone fill me in on them?
I know that Twinsburg's is Monopoly, but that's all I remember.

Thanks in advance!
Fairfield Choraliers: Don't let the past repeat itself
Findlay: No theme
Beavercreek: No theme
Fairfield Girls: Southern Belles

I thought Beavercreek's had to do with emotions and feeling? It may not have been specific but it definitely seemed to be an underlying theme there.

I thought finals in this competition was amazing particularly for the time of year. Very different shows but all great in their own right. You could tell that everyone put there whole heart and soul into performing. No criticism here. Great job Twinsburg, Solon, Fairfield, Findlay and Beavercreek!

About to post my thoughts on the finals groups shows I saw. I will be critical as I find that necessary.

First off I am really sad matoaca did not make finals. They had one of my favorite shows and their vocals and choreography were quite good! I thought they were for sure in finals.

Now onto finalists. I did not get to see twinsburg and solon in daytime (although I saw solon at beavercreeks competition last weekend) but I saw beavercreek, findlay, and fairfield in daytime and I saw everyone but beavercreek in finals.

After finals was done I had the choirs as:
Twinsburg BC
Fairfield BV
Solon BB / BV (tie, both good at different things)
Findlay
FF girls
Beavercreek

Twinsburg: Your visual effect completely blew me away. The choreography was basically perfection and you most definitely deserved best choreo. It was Clinton clean. I enjoyed the show although I agree that some of the arrangements were a little strange and the vocals could definitely use improvement in tone especially. However, the vocals were better than they have been in past years and I thought the theme was really cool. Well deserved GC

Solon: Your second number is one of my favorite numbers this year so far. It was creepy like it should be and it has been stuck in my head still... Anyways, your blend was definitely the best yesterday. However, I am not a big fan of the rock tone instead of a choral tone, as it is still show CHOIR. You are also extremely good at diction and enunciation. The choreography was clean... but I do not like it. It is all basically the same thing and not creative. I agree that u did the best you could with it though. I had you tied with Fairfield for best vocals.

Fairfield: I LOVE YOUR SHOW. Overall my favorite show of the competition. I understood it and did not find it offensive although I know some people did. When you began "Sing" I literally died, so good. I believe that if you had improved your show a bit from daytime, you would have won. However, in finals it seemed like the performance was not as good as daytime. There were people sticking out especially when guys had a different part than the girls (like different words or offset or whatever). When you came together though your vocals were definitely the best of the night and diction was pretty good. However, due to blend issues and random other flubs I had you tied with solon for BV. Choreography was extremely good in addition, as always.

Findlay: best tone and my favorite opener of the night, Noise is such a good and powerful song. I love your choral sound and tone, so much. In daytime I could not understand what you were saying though. In finals you definitely stepped it up though because I could tell what you were saying, the diction was there. The closer... I love the idea with the blacklight while tapping and the glow sticks. But, while all this was going on, vocals were lost. I could not understand the words again and volume suffered. Also, you guys were rushing a lot, which was obvious due to the tapping. I feel like if this was fixed you could have won best vocals and been placed higher. I enjoyed your show and choreography was pretty clean.

FF girls: I was surprised at your vocals and you were pretty clean. It's awesome that the girls group has vocals and choreography that competes with mixed groups so well. Congrats on the placement.

Beavercreek: I agree that you guys have a lot of potential. It is a lot of little things that could make your show a lot better. I did enjoy your show though, it was cute and funny and the closer was pretty cool. Keep working on it! As if that's not an obvious thing for all groups lol.

Marysville: I LOVE YOU ALL. I am so proud to be an alumni. This is one of my favorite shows ever and I am so jealous of you all haha. You guys kicked butt last night and the band REALLY stepped up especially from Beavercreek's competition! The vocals are gorgeous and then in your face at then end and it is really cool to have different vocal techniques depending on the song instead of the same vocals the whole show. The choreography is really good although could still use some cleaning, and I'm sure you will work on it. I could tell you guys loved performing, I mean everyone was screaming at you after all

Congrats to all groups who performed! It was a great day.

Anyways, I'm very proud of the amount of talent that we have here in Ohio. Every choir that competed and was fantastic in every way! Ohio has a lot looking toward them for the rest of this season!

Competition in the performing arts is risky because it's all based on opinion. Sure, a judge can support his/her opinions with facts and well-established techniques, but in the end it all comes down to the preferences and mood of the judges. Show choir competitions will never be truly fair for this reason.

Kyle, not too sure we were watching the same Marysville show. They were clean, had great vocals, and had lots of energy for performing around midnight. I can honestly say that I am a SUPER proud alum. I support your rankings but am not too sure that Marysville would've deserved 4th runner up by any means

Clean dancing, good vocals, and high energy is what gets a group into finals, but is not nearly enough to earn a top placement. I've been a huge fan of the swingers since I saw them live for the first time in 2006. I've seen them twice already this year, and you are right, they have a really nice vocal sound and great choreo throughout the whole set. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the repertoire and there wasn't a great amount of emotional expression in the singing to really engage the audience. A show needs to capture the audience's attention and keep it. That didn't happen with me like it did with Findlay, Solon, Fairfield, and Twinsburg. I loved all of the groups I saw though and had a really enjoyable night.

Ahhhh I so wish I could see Twinsburg and Fairfield girls in person this year. I usually am not a fan of girl groups but have watched Pure Elegance go from nothing to one of the best girls groups in the nation. As soon as someone gets this DVD you should upload it! Or better yet someone should post a link to purchase the finals DVD!

The final show was great tonight. All the groups I heard were fantastic! Unfortunately, I did not get the chance to see Beavercreek, who performed first. I saw all of the following groups though. I judged them using a score sheet created by myself. With 170 points total, 100 were allocated to music categories, 50 for visual, and 20 for show design. Since I didn't see Beavercreek, I added Marysville so I'd still have 6. Here's my results according to my humble opinion:

GC- Twinsburg
1st RU- Fairfield Choraliers
2nd RU- Solon
3rd RU- Findlay
4th RU- Marysville
5th RU- Fairfield Pure Elegance

Best Music- Twinsburg
Best Visual- Twinsburg
Best Show Design- Findlay

Even though my scores ended up this way, I thought Findlay's show was the most exciting and enjoyable! All of the bands were great except when a few overpowered the vocals a few times. The choraliers have a very deep, dramatic show which was incredible. And Twisnburg sounded beautiful. Well done all!

Overall, I came in with great expectations for the competition... and then they left with the trophies.

The rude things said on twitter can stop!
Different strokes for different folks, AJ. Clark's taking risks and some people just don't like it, or are ignorant to the real story we're trying to tell.
Overall, I came in with great expectations for the competition... and then they left with the trophies.
