It appears, per the events tab, that Vermillion has cancelled for today. Mitchell looked good last week at Davenport.

Hey, show choir community. Can someone please explain to me how it’s allowed, or possible rather, that a 4A division group is performing before the 3A division? And another question: how is a *prep* division group allowed to perform later than the other prep groups?

Each competition sets their own schedule. In Missouri, it's commonplace to see single-gender groups sprinkled throughout the afternoon and one or two big groups in the morning. In my experience, competition directors tend to be very accommodating to the scheduling needs of various groups!

I can understand the confusion. It seems to me that all groups competing within a division should be performing in sequential order, unless we are to believe that scoring scales linearly across all divisions (in which case, what are the point of divisions in the first place?).

Will is right that competitions try to be accommodating, and granted, we are talking about local school events and not industry-regulated tournaments. However, questions like this highlight the fact that scoring and structure within the world of show choir is loose at best. I can easily see from an outside perspective that some aspects don't make much sense.

Just looking at the schedule the reason Mitchell is going so early, is because apparently their scheduled for another competition in Vermillion. Vermilion is 30 minutes from Sioux City. And they are performing at 3:30 in Vermilion. My best guess is because they are actually going to be doing both competitions that's why they're scheduled so early.

Heelan director here - we understand the confusion! We've had a number of late additions this year (including both FDC and Swing Cats), so we are accommodating their needs as best we can. With Mitchell pulling double duty between Vermillion's competition and ours, their current time slot is the latest they could perform to make it to Vermillion for their daytimes performance. With Swing Cats adding on, we would need to restructure the morning to put them next to the other prep groups AND significantly move up Mitchell's time to put them between prep and treble, so we felt this was the most logical solution to accommodate everybody's needs and avoid major schedule changes. We look forward to hosting all of these schools this week!

So FDC may also perform in finals in both comps?

Many schools are also trying to accommodate performers/groups who have other event commitments. This event is on the same day as Iowa's individual speech contests, so groups that have students involved in that activity may ask for time accommodations to allow students to travel from one location to another.
