Some highlights of the comp for me (I only got to watch 3 groups, but they were ALL amazing!)
-Waukee NW Eos's "Drunken Sailor"- Choreography was SO FUN and so well done, solist was so into it. Great job
-Eos's interactions with each during their ballad and the part where they sang "The stories I could tell" and just looked into the distance. So good.
-This tall blonde guy from Urbandale Studio who had AMAZING facials.
-Urbandale Studio's entire set was so well chosen. and the tap dancing in 42nd Street was incredible. I LOVED THEIR SHOW.
-The two guy soloists at the beginning of Urbandale Studio's opener.
-Ankeny Centennial Spectrum's "Ahhhh" section where they all had their arms out (IDK how to describe it better). CHILLS, it was great
-THE TRUMPET SOLO THAT JUST SOARED at the beginning of Spectrum's set
Great job to everyone! The shows I saw were incredible, and if I didn't see your's I'm sure it was AMAZING . Keep on working hard show choir fam and have a great season!

What an awesome competition.

Ankeny is incredible yet again. They seem to select highly difficult, interesting music year in and year out these days, then proceed to perform it at a very high level. Their choreo is so interesting and captivating to watch, especially in the closer during the stomping portions and the song with the clapping choreo. Obviously forward thinking, but if Ankeny manage to win at Nationals and any other comps they attend this year, would it be the most impressive undefeated season ever? Would love to hear some thoughts on that.

Studio was awesome, Eos was very, very impressive, they have placed behind the following groups this year: Linn-Mar, Urbandale, Ankeny Cent. Very good company to be in for your first year.

Also shout out to Norris for a wildly fun show with dedicated performances from the students, especially "WILSOONNN" guy. Made me genuinely laugh.

Congrats to all groups involved

Yep. Same here. Huh? If I knew what the story was, It would make more sense to me I'm sure. I saw a bad quality YouTube video a week or so ago, before it got taken down - but the lighting was so bad and such, I actually thought the mountains were pyramids lol. I'm still a bit lost I guess... Anyone?

I am not associated with the group, but this is what I gathered. A town in the mountains (Fjall, the name of the show), has not gotten snow which is an important part of living there. They plan to send people into the mountains to fix the problem, a voice that sings and brings snow. This plan fails, leading to the soloist eventually taking the place of that voice in order to bring snow to the town.

If anyone from the group wants to fill in the blanks, please do. This is what I gathered from the selected music.

Wow! Thanks! Yeah - I wouldn't have gathered any of that without a synopsis! lol...
California: We're home to the most esoteric shows in all of show choir!!
Iowa: here, hold my beer...

LOL! Yeah, I can see what you mean, the recording that was taken off youtube of this show made it very difficult.

In Iowa's defense, I think Linn-Mar's show this year is a very succinct, easy to follow, simple story.

I just watched Ankeny Centennial on the live stream and absolutely loved it. Gorgeous singing, really effective dancing, and heartfelt emotion from all of the performers. I'm a huge fan of this show.

Ankeny Centennial is officially the first group to have it snow on stage during their show I think.

This is a pretty low-quality copy of the video, but Burroughs used snow to really cool atmospheric effect in the beginning of their Star Wars show from 2011: https://youtu.be/s0z2ULwem6I?t=40

Wow!! I have seen this show, but I totally forgot about that. Iowa show choirs growth has been super impressive, pretty crazy to see their effects being compared to a group like John Burroughs.

Evidently there are some gaps in my knowledge of show choir. Will check out these groups, love Daniel Hand.

Waukee Northwest "Eos" was SO good, and for it being their first year I can't imagine how good they're going to be in the future.

As far as I'm concerned, Ankeny Centennial has basically 2 advanced mixed groups. Eternal Rush was awesome this morning.

That's how they've been competing for the last few years. Chaos is their prep group now.
