I was VERY surprised to hear that Albertville did not win GC! I thought you guys did incredible this year, and that you deffinatly deserved it, but from what I saw of the Cloverhill performance I can see why the judges debated! haha I'm very impressed that you guys aren't taking the sore loser route and bashing CH for winning. That earns ALOT of respect in my book.

I know I'm way late, but I'd like to give my opinion on the Show Shoppe!

I also want to restate the fact that I'm VERY proud of High Leit! They deserved to be in the finals! I thoroughly enjoyed their show and thought their audience participation was VERY effective! I only wish they used mics for their soloists (even though I could STILL hear them in the balcony.)

For my group's performance though, I was very sad when we weren't able to place this year. However, I've never felt so good leaving the stage then I did after our prelims performance! The whole choir was very please by our show and we had the time of our lives, so we weren't too beat up when we weren't able to move on!

I had a great time watching all the groups and just enjoying Nashville! Can't wait to (hopefully) be back next yer!

This doesn't happen at any other competition, that I know of. At most competitions, either:

a) A scoresheet is used just like in prelims, but ranks are pulled from those scores and averaged, or

b) No scoresheet is used, but each judge individually ranks the groups in order, as well as places votes on captions. When it's done this way it can be based largely on opinion, because there's no accountability of having a scoresheet to justify putting one group behind another. Still, they don't "get together and discuss it"; it's all tallied by someone else and never corroborated on by the judges.

Your B option is what i was talking about.

in finals announcements, that was the way that Mr. Kimmel said things happened. This happens at a lot of competitions tho. Prelims is scored and finals is just the judges opinion.

I don't think I've performed a competition where we didn't recieve a finals scoresheet. Where does this happen?

I have heard that Belmont used a points sheet in prelims, but then in finals, it was just the judges getting together and deciding based on their personal opinions, and throwing the scoresheets out. Any truth to this? I'm kind of seeing that there may be some validity to it, but for the sake of the show choir world, I hope not.

Scotty, my secretary told me that I am scheduled to go to Wheaton-Warrenville. A new assignment. I hope that I get to see you perform. I will bring a DVD about Show Choir, if I can remember. It tells all about the history of Show Choir and it's transformation. There won't be any Show Choirs with a CD for a band! You have a great Show Choir program going on there at Albertsville. I view your shows on Youtube and quite frankly speaking I wonder how in the H__LL that your group isn't winning GCs everytime you perform. What a show!!!!!

It's getting boring seeing the same old stuff from the other Show Choirs. You know what I mean - arm twisting, waving, etc... I might as well be watching a weight loss DVD called swinging with the oldies. You get my drift? Anyway, I think you are going to Petal Show Show Invitational this week-end. I hope you have some judges that haven't gone to sleep watching the other shows before Albertsville performs.

Okay so I'm gonna be the SECOND person to do this so please get it right cuz this annoys the crap out of us. The name is ALBERTVILLE. No "s" in the middle. For someone who worships our group so much you'd think you would spell the name of our school right! LOL! Oh and just so you know... I'm not attacking you, just simply pointing out your mistake. LOL! Thanks for your support!

stage prop may I say this your definition of a show choir is a group of students who can just so happen to sing and dance and seem to have very big sponsors or boosters to help off set the cost of your shows and expenses and to have a big band behind you were all you do is one show a year and its the same show you perform from fall to spring not doing any other shows such as a christmas show or a valentines show then you tell your group that winning is the most important thing and then your kids forget about why there out there in the first place the most important thing is to have fun on the stage and to do thier very best those are the things that they will remember and that is what Highleit did they had fun on stage and interacted with the audience and they did not care if they won or not but they had fun and by the way don't hate on CloverHill because they beat Albertville because I saw the finals and the pre-lims it was very close Show shoppe and you know what I believe that both groups deserved GC but it was based on the judges opinion clover hill won if u put a different panel of judges there it would have different because there opinion would have been different so don't hate the judges cause they did not choose who you wanted to win

Punctuation. Please.

All I want to say is don't call it a Show Choir Competition if it really isn't. If it is, then a group with only a CD and singers shouldn't beat a Show Choir.

First, I'd like to say that I mean no disrespect to any single group who competed at the Show Shoppe. Every group who performs, first must put in hours of rehearsals and prep to get them to that point, and they should be commended for all their hard work and dedication. I'd also like to point out that I was not in attendance at Belmont this year, but have been to multiple contests there in previous years, and am drawing on my experiences from that.

Eight or nine years ago, this was quickly becoming a premiere contest; it was a great place for the best of the South and Midwest to face-off. It wasn't uncommon to have four or five powerhouses from these regions in attendance. However, in recent years, this contest has really fallen off...and in my opinion, there's a reason for that.

I'm not exactly proud of it, but I have been around this show choir stuff for a while. I say that, so you can understand this: I've spoken to many people over the years, several of which I consider to be very smart show choir people. The general consensus is that these shenanigans seem to have become commonplace at Belmont, leaving a very sour taste in the mouths of parents and students alike, and for good reason.

Like I said earlier, I mean no disrespect for any show choir who competed Saturday, but I simply don't understand why this competition is allowed to continue failing to produce accurate results based on a score sheet.

Judges' personal opinions should be supplemental to an objective score sheet...not the other way around.

thanks! i look forward to competing at Wheaton in a couple of weeks.

Also, one more thought, If you think that a qualification of a show choir is that you HAVE to have a band, what about middle school show choirs? Most of the middle schools that I see don't use a live band. I was just wondering your opinion on this.

thanks!

Rian, I am not associated with any Show Choir. I didn't see any rules when I signed up that you had to be. If I am wrong, please delete my membership. Have a great day!

StageProp You will need to associate yourself with a choir. We've lett you go unassociated, but because of your antics here, you're going to need to associate yourself with a choir. Please do so under the MyChoir portion of the forums. Thank You and have a good day.

8th Street2010 - You show me a Show Choir with big bucks and sponsors and I will give you a dollar. Poca perfomers make all of their money through fundraisers. So do the other Show Choirs. They may look like they have big bucks but that is the magic of the Show Choir Directors.

All I want to say is don't call it a Show Choir Competition if it really isn't. If it is, then a group with only a CD and singers shouldn't beat a Show Choir. I think Scotty would agree to this.

okay, 8th street2010- most choir raises all their funds through fundraisers...

Stage prop- i actually disagree with you. i think that a choir with only a CD has just as much of a chance of beating another choir as anyone else does. it was the judges decision tho, not either of ours.

I think that Highleit deserves even more credit than they have been given because they DID beat groups with bands, props, costume changes, etc.
