What surprising results! I appreciate the thorough details that are available on their site regarding the judging process, show style recommendations, etc. It would be cool if all competitions had such information readily available. Also, there were fresh judges that we don't see at a lot of big US competitions, and after reading their bios, they sound extremely qualified. Or maybe they're just new to a layperson such as myself. Either way, it would be cool for them to shake up the lineups down here in the US of A.
Al fin y al cabo, congrats to Splash & to Burbank. Can't wait to watch Burbank's show on the livestream at the Burroughs competition.
I'm really interested in Etobicoke's show! For Etobicoke to have a caption sweep over Burbank when in the past few years Etobicoke hasn't even really placed at FAME competitions in the U.S. - it's really intriguing. Congrats to them and other winning choirs on their divisional first place and caption sweeps.
This is a pretty confusing format with the tiers. I put tier 1 as the Arts Division with Burbank in it because I don't think you can argue they are a top tier group. Last year TG was in the Non-Arts division and we had that as Tier 1. I think it would be a consensus that those are the divisions that should be listed as tier 1.
You're right. The divisions/tiers are a little messy, but we can't help it Show Choir Canada keeps changing the format. Last year Totino-Grace was in the "non-arts/large school" division while this year Burbank is in the "arts/community/international" division instead of the "non-arts/large division". There just wasn't an "international" division the year Totino went; however they still won the Overall Grand Champions title in the non-arts/large division.
Regardless of the tier, they're all compared on the same scale for the overall GC title. In the 4 years Show Choir Canada has had it's current format, the non-arts/large schools have 2 overall GC's and arts/community schools have 2 overall GC's. It's an even split. So I'm actually not really sure there is a consensus, honestly, as it depends which groups compete any given year. Yes, obviously, Burbank should be in Tier I. But, I don't know, every year is kind of different so it's hard for us to be consistent when Show Choir Canada hasn't been as we're a reflection of the event itself.
