Who exactly were these judges? Like I get their names are listed on the side of this page, but how qualified are they to cover a major contest like this one? We were taught that sometimes things go your way, and sometimes they don't. But, it's a lot easier to take if you're being scored by people whom you've heard of. I think our director has been around for quite a while, and he said he hadn't heard of any of them. You can't find much on Google either.
In addition to the judge's names being listed, you can also click on the names to go to what we call their Personnel Page. It lists any schools they've worked with, a bio (if we have one), as well as any competitions they have previously judged. This shows who they are and what their qualifications may be. I'm not sure what you were looking for on Google, but we should have most of the information here for you. Hopefully the Personnel Pages help.
What I am getting is that your implying this competition was rigged somehow because you didn't get second, didn't win, or didnt get best vocals or choreo. It is what it is. Don't throw the shade and rep your choir like this. The final performances are online, and I think most can agree with the judge's selection here.
Not saying it’s rigged. Simply curious who the judges were. It’s impossible to say it was rigged because I haven’t heard of the judges, so I couldn’t say it was rigged for anyone. I’m not taking away the awards of the others, they did fantastic, but I’m a curious person. Sorry if that offended you, but I will ask, do you happen to know more information about the judging panel than what is listed on the website??
Haley has a bit of a point here. I have a feeling that this is coming from not getting a result that her group wanted, but two of the judges are a little odd to have judging. Two of the judges are not vocal music instructors nor are they involved with show choir at all, I find it a little questionable. Having Disney experience is not a qualification that I would really value for a show choir judge. I'm not saying that these two people aren't good judges, but I think it's totally acceptable to question their qualifications. That being said, questioning it after the fact is a moot point. I might have brought it up in a bit of a different way.
Haley - what other kind of information about the judging panel are you specifically seeking? You haven't really indicated what you're looking for. The bios on their pages seem to include a decent amount of information. So I'm not sure how to help you.
Kevin - It's incorrect to say "(they are not) involved in show choir at all" with reference to Houde and Murphy. They've both previously judged at FAME Orlando and each of their bios outlines work with show choirs. I don't think their experiences should be discounted, just because they are from Disney. Show choir comes in many shapes and sizes.
Show choir may come in many shapes and sizes, but if this panel had been the ones to judge HOA Orlando, there might have been more discussion about their qualifications to judge. I’m all for enlarging the group of judges we see around the nation, I just want to make sure they are qualified to judge show choir. For instance, I have tons of experience in show choir, regular choir, and tons of performance experience in MT and opera. That doesn’t mean I am qualified to judge vocal jazz competitions.
Jeff just showed us how they are qualified judges.....Furthermore, this sounds like the same logic how employers want 10 years of experience for the same job their employees apply for... So I ask this overall. What qualifications do you need to be a judge? You have to start somewhere...Just because they aren't heavily involved in show choir, doesn't mean they aren't qualified for their positions, which seems to be the argument people make. Every judge starts somewhere with their first competition, and these judges have all had prior judging experience, plus have worked with show choirs. I fail to see how they are unqualified.
Houde & Murphy have the exact kind of qualifications that should be judging competitions like this one. Learn from the pros - the people who are making a living doing what show choir is trying to teach.
Hello Everyone. I am apart of the Uniondale High School Show Choir Rhythm of the Knight and we have qualified to compete in the Show Choir of America National Finals in Chicago since we won Grand Champions among other awards April 7th in Orlando. If you yourself or if you know of anyone that would like to help us raise funds we are collecting donations on https://www.gofundme.com/rhythm-of-the-knight-show-choir. We need 40,000 in order to go and compete. Anything you can give would be helpful. Thank you for all the support this season!!
