One of my favorite weekends ever even if we didn't get to compete. Such a great competition. WELL WORTH THE DRIVE--looking forward to the improvements Mr. Mercer brings next year.
this was an amazing day. thank you to the entire team from the Fairfield high school for making great memories for the students, parents, staff and directors. I am looking forward the day that we can drive 14 hours on a bus again to attend this amazing event. #soworthit
I want to personally thank everyone who came to the 20th Anniversary of the Crystal Classic. As the new director here, this competition was quite a feat to take on even though I have run competitions before. It's not always easy to walk into a machine that has already been running and quite fully understand it - you sometimes have to walk through it for a year. There were obviously a few obstacles that we were up against, but I personally want to thank all of the parent volunteers and students who made yesterday what it was. The day was an amazing day with many, many amazing performances. It was good to see old friends and make new friends with groups I haven't met before. Anyone that knows me knows that I like to stay as close to on time as possible. We have taken a lot of notes for how to make next year's Crystal Classic even better and I am sure we can do it with some easy fixes. Thank you to everyone for your patience and positive feedback - most everyone stated that regardless of how long it ran, the competition was a lot of fun and a great day of show choir. I had a great time and look forward to putting together the 21st Annual Fairfield Crystal Classic on March 16, 2019.
I think part of it probably comes down to there only being 25 minutes originally allotted for each group, when in reality it takes closer to 45 minutes. That happening for a whole day can really start to push the schedule back. Not sure of anything else though!
WHYYYYY does it take 45 minutes to set up, perform, and take down a show???? That is kind of ridiculous to me. I have noticed over the past few years that those with giant sets are the ones who go over time. It’s more fair to the rest of the groups if you can do all that in your allotted time, and should be something to practice before competition season. Sets look great, but let’s not kill the schedule cuz of them. Just my opinion.
*edit* I include crazy riser formations in the word “set”. My point still stands- we should be able to set up and tear down faster.
it was the 25 minute time slots, when every group had a different riser set up. I don't think any of the sets here were that large, but the risers were unique for every group.
As someone who has been in competitive show choir for seven years, I must say that Crystal was far and away the best competition I’ve ever been to. There were understandable issues with keeping on schedule, but even at 2:30am the arena was just pulsing with energy it was amazing. I’m so honored to have performed at Crystal and I speak for everyone at Shepherd Hill when I say that it was so great to see such amazing talent and to be received so kindly and hospitably. We hope everyone enjoyed our show as much as we enjoyed all of yours!!
