Comparing groups by style. Glenwood has finished 1st runner-up 3 times over the past 2 years and has won GC 10 times at some good comps. Question, how does one compare the different styles of the groups competing. We have lost to Center Grove twice and Lin-Marr once during this period of time apples v. oranges. Just curious. Thanks for this forum. Good luck to all of the groups competing this week and the rest of the year. Four year dad who is really going to miss watching our group and my child perform.
Good conversation topic. Also, from one show choir dad to another, I totally get how you are feeling. My two daughters have given me 8 straight years of pride watching them and their groups. I don’t know what I’m going to do next year, other than live vicariously through showchoir.com.
It's hard. I like to think judges do their best to separate the spectacle of some groups from the singing and dancing, but sometimes they don't. Not saying that was the case here, as I wasn't in attendance. That being said, Center Grove is consistently one of the best groups in the country, and this year is no different. Likewise, Linn Mar is usually very solid, and this year happened to be a record breaking year for their program. Their wins by no means diminish the fact that Glenwood is one of the greatest show choirs in the nation and has been for a number of years now.
I consider myself a Titan Fever superfan, and if I were a judge, I'm not sure if there are many (if any) groups I would put ahead of them. Once you get past a certain level though, a lot boils down to personal opinion on the style of singing and dancing that you prefer and are looking for.
