Thanks, Leon! All 3 North Carolina regional events have been added to our calendar of events and each has a separate discussion thread under the East Coast Competitions area. As it gets closer, you can post the schedule and event details in each regional's topic. It's great to see show choir in North Carolina grow and flourish! 27 is a really solid number and 40 would be even better! There are larger show choir events out there, but they're also located in show choir dense areas like Indianapolis or Southern California. Can't wait to see how this upcoming year turns out for y'all!
We are excited to announce the biggest show choir partnership in North Carolina since William Peace University signed on as title sponsor in 2012 - Carowinds!
Carowinds of Charlotte will host a March 25, 2017 Regional as part of their Festival of Music! The event will be held in the Carowinds Theater, site of all Festival of Music events. The theater will be overhauled and remodeled over the winter in preparation for the spring festival.
Show Choirs will be able to choose from among three to four Regionals in order to qualify for the State Final. Other Regional sites:
March 24 at Overhills High School in Spring Lake
March 25 at Kings Mountain High School
One more site may be added in the Triangle or Northeast. If added, this will be announced by the fall.
We believe this new partnership with Carowinds will enable the competition to grow well beyond the 27 show choirs that competed in 2016. We expect roughly 40 show choirs will participate, possibly making this the largest show choir competition in the US!
Preparations are well underway for the 2017 William Peace University NC Show Choir Competition.
The format will revert back to the one used from 2012-2015: schools will first compete in Regionals which are qualifiers for the State Final. We expect to have 3-4 Regionals statewide.
Regional: March 24 (evening) at Overhills High School in Harnett County
Additional dates and sites to be determined
State Finals: April 29 at William A Hough High School north of Charlotte. High schools will compete in the morning followed by middle schools in the late afternoon / evening.
We will present a show choir clinic on one Saturday in February, date to be determined.
