I completely understand the rule of the high-low and why it is in place. However, in situations like this it seems as though a SYSTEM decides who wins, NOT the judges. The high-low is certainly a good rule, it just kind of sucks when it works against you, haha.
I find that has been true a lot this year. Since many competitions have been extremely close, it is so easy to change up the placings at any competition if you use a different system, as I was discussing with Adam Miller last night. That's why I think it is so hard to come up with a placing system, someone is going to lose either way.

ok i got to look at the scores today and here were some things i got out of it.
In the prep Protege was ahead of In-Step by about 1.66 points after averaging so about 5. Sumner-Fredericksburg was over 5 ahead of protege. Also since there were 11 judges in finals and each group had 9 scores count Kennedy ended up being ahead of Linn-Mar by 2 points without averaging after dropping the hi-lo scores.
The big deciding factor in the night rounds from what I saw was Sandy Chapman's score. She had Kennedy in 5th place with 150 points. That was the low score that got dropped and drastically raised Kennedy's scores. Michael Harrington and Allen Keopke also had large point spreads between Kennedy and Linn-Mar but neither of those scores were dropped, so thats why I feel Chapman's scores affected the outcome the most. Here were the totals from the judges (i didnt have time to write down the vocal and choreo scores from each judge)
^^^^^ Yup, that's all true. It was truly a great day of show choir! I was thoroughly impressed by every show I saw during the day. Kudos to all performers!
Is that correct? If so, man, it really must have been close. At that point it really is a shame to have one group lose, because both are obviously at the same talent level, the judges just choose the one they like better really. Sounds like a high talent competition!

I would like to point out that these scores are the result of averaging the judging panel.
Before averaging the final scores (after the high-low was taken out), Happiness Inc. was around 1.75 points ahead...
It was very very close. I'm still in shock that show choir could have a margin of a fraction of a point. Everyone was so on at night, it was very scary going first in the night round. That was a first for me, personally.
HECK YES YOU DID! What a way to end the year, huh?! You've had such an amazing run this year, and this competition was just the rich, rich icing on the cake. Please know how proud I am of each and every one of you.
Love,
Ben
Edit: Also, congrats on taking the People's Choice Award for the third year in a row!
I personally just wanted to take a few moments to say something to all of the people that were at MoShow that personally stopped me in the hall to apologize, give words of encouragement, and to congratulate me. I don't know that I could've felt any more supported than I did yesterday. Every single group that was there, one or more members from their show choir said at least I'm sorry to me, and that really means a lot to me. (not quite what i WANTED to hear, but ya know, it happens? )
**I didn't have a seizure, nor did I have a asthmatic panic attack, I'm not dead, nor broke any bones**
I actually dislocated my hip right after I did the splits in the Guys' feature. From there, my hip began to get damaged as I finished the show.
I went to the hospital, and the doctor/orthopedic surgeon analyzed x-rays, and saw that the Femur actually was back in place, but...
I have bleeding cartilage and ligaments that surround the joint, and a torn hamstring.
I have an appt. with the orthopedic surgeon for an MRI this coming thursday, and that will let us know the necessity for surgery/other repairing method.
Once again, I just want to thank everyone, Washington Paramedics, Washington HS Parents, and all the members of all the show choirs that stopped me. You all are wonderful people, and it was awesome to have your support. With the stellar help of painkillers, I hope this letter made sense, Haha.
Sincerely,
DiAndre' Neville
Im amazed at how well happiness inc did. They had there school shut down almost a whole week because they had to shut the power off and have only practiced twice in three weeks. Congrats to Happiness!!!
All Cedar Rapids schools were shut down for a week, including Linn-Mar, Prairie, Jefferson, Kennedy, Washington, and Xavier.
Can someone post all results including the 3A schools? Thanks
1st Place - Center Point-Urbana - Summit Street Singers
2nd Place - Williamsburg - Sound Attraction
3rd Place - La Porte City Union - Union Station
4th Place - Western Dubuque - 5th Avenue
5th Place - South Tama - Harding Street Singers

First of all, I want to say WOW! Janesville Craig was SOOOOOO good! They have come such a long way since last year. They actually looked like a show choir this year. GREAT JOB!
I was only able to make it to Mo-Show for the day rounds. From what I saw these results look correct. I sat with the judges for all the open class groups, as the judges assisstants from Momentum had to get ready to perform. I was also able to see a lot of the day round scores, and so I know how close everything was. Vocally, Linn-Mar tore things up. Kennedy completely 100% deserved the choreography award. I actually thought Davenport Central should've won Best Band. Their female soloist just had the right voice and was AWESOME so congrats to her!!!! I had an awesome time yesterday! I also want to remind everyone that the scores are averaged in night round.... so if Linn-Mar was .22 behind that really means they were 1.75 points behind (which is still really close).
Also, if we are going to include Linn-Mar's "Best Ballad" caption award, I think we should announce everyone's caption, since everyone does get one in the prelims.
Most Effective Use of Costuming- Milton
High Energy Award- Janesville Craig
Most Effective Use of Props- Cedar Rapids Kennedy
Most Original Staging- Davenport Central
Best Ballad- Linn-Mar
GO HAPPINESS!!!!! When the year started, who'd have thunk it????? I can't believe the group you've become and the accomplishments you've earned through hard work. You've got an INCREDIBLE test this week at Nashville, so go down there and be ready to tear it up in PRELIMS, as well as finals. Also, great work Protege'. I heard it may have been your best show of the year!
To Milton, WOW! After a MORE than bumpy first 2 contests, you rallied and showed amazing resillience in becoming the group you aspired to be. I just wish you had 2 or 3 more contests to continue what you've been doing. GREAT GREAT JOB!!
