I am an alum of Free Spirit, however, with that set aside, after daytime I was telling the people I was with that Papio deserved this win. Elkhorn South had an awesome show, but as it's been said, there was no "wow" factor. I had come into the weekend with an open mind and after watching all of the Open groups I had FS on top because they had a full show and left me wanting more.

I hope I didn't offend anyone or anything, I just wanted to put my small bit in about the competition.

I was happy to be in attendance for my school's first GC at a major competition and going down as the inaugural grand champions at this competition.

Who were the judges here? also-- I know is papio lv is doing really well this year but were they better than elkhorn south? it sounds like both are having up years which is awesome but given elkhorns track record this season, i'm a little surprised that papio lv took them down. what did people at this competition thinnk of the placements yesterday?

I feel like Elkhorn South was just one of those random (as in this doesn't happen all the time) shows that placed really well in competitions (sometimes better than predicted) but just couldn't ever win. Really solid, but nothing super wow about it.

I don't know about Elkhorn South this year, but I do know that Papillion starts preparing for their musical around this time of year, that's why. But with Adam Lambert leaving Elkhorn South, I would've assumed he would go out with a bigger bang....

I feel like the "Big Bang" was last years competition schedule. Not every show choir can afford to do that every year. And this year might be a reflection of being "low key" after a heavy travel season. Just a guess.

This is madness. Why do they stop competing so early?

Edit: I'm also sad to see that Elkhorn South is already done with their competitive season and that Papillion is once again completing their season next weekend. I love these two groups of amazing people and would love to see Papillion's show with maybe even another month of work....

I give both groups credit for each competing 5 times in their season, but holy cow... we're barely 7 days into February!

Ah, really? That's so early to end the season! Elkhorn South has been competing every weekend this year, but dang. What an excellent season they had!

I know three of the judges were Melanie Walters, Tom Gerking, and Jacob Delfs. I was able to watch only Papillion, but I would like to think that I've been one of their biggest supporters this season. Their vocals are absolutely incredible, and while I'm sure the scores were extremely close, I'd agree with judges in having Free Spirit over Elkhorn South based on their performance last week at Westside.

Can anyone clarify...

Did GISH Future Image place 2nd or 1st?

They were awarded 2nd place trophy for awards (friends at comp.), but are listed as placing 1st.

Just trying to find out if anything is wrong. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure FI got second and Power Surge got first in prep. That's what I was told from people at awards.

Wonderful competition so far!! The venue is nice (albeit moderately crowded) but the school is wonderful! Also happy that they aren't kicking students out of the auditorium but rather moving them towards the back! More excited about the free wifi though...
