Thanks for your support... I could've agreed more with you on the second number. Luckily we cut that entire middle section!. AS Far as confidence we are still working on that...maybe i should print this off and read it to the group!

Just the fact that so many people loved our show really helps our confidence. i think there are a few posts on here that the group would benefit from hearing!!

Some thoughts about the competition….

(I only saw a few groups.)

Auburn – Woah, dude! Great vocals, great choreography, great show. AMAZING soloists. Awesome bass section! It really added a distinct depth and support to the vocal sound (especially in the ballad). I think the only thing left for this group to do is to gain confidence. It seems to me that y’all are better even than you think you are, so act like it when you’re performing! If you act like you’re the best group anyone has ever seen when you’re on stage, people will believe you. (It tends to work for other groups.) GAH – I never get tired of seeing groups who don’t put vocals on the backburner. The second song was about two times too long for me, but I thought it was a really original choice and executed well. Finals performance was awesome – especially the band.

Hi Chris. Glad you made the competition saturday! As to your questions about scoring, here goes:
First, we WILL be changing to a ranking system for Finals next year. After a discussion with the judging panel I have decided that is the better way to go.
Second, out of curiosity I checked the score sheets to see if dropping the high and low scores actually made any difference and in this case it did not. The results were the same with or without the high and low scores.
Finally, the caption awards were tallied using all five scores.
I personally welcome any and all comments and suggestions that you or anyone might have that will make the Diamond Classic better in future years. We have enjoyed traveling to so many great competitions around the country for many years. Our goal was to take the best ideas from those competitions and incorporate them into ours. It was our pleasure to have hosted ALL of these fine groups and hopefully to have given bck to them the hospitality that has been shown to us by so many through the years.

Finals performance was awesome – especially the band.

Beech – Huge HUGE props for keeping a legitimate a capella together. Thank you for that brief period of time during which I didn’t feel like I had to make excuses for the “choir” for the sake of the “show.” It felt like music.

Albertville – I didn’t get to see the show because that was when we had to “surrender” our seats, but I really wanted to see it. As far as the competition, the food was awesome, and the live streaming to all of the homerooms was pretty convenient. The new venue is really nice too. I’m still a little confused about some of the methods used in the scoring process – like how a group ranked 1, 1, 2, 3, 4 beats a group ranked 1, 1, 2, 2, 4 (rather, I understand the procedure - I don’t understand the idea behind it: dropping the literal highest and lowest scores for each group instead of the rankings). Maybe that’s how other people do it, and I’ve just never noticed that before? Or why the “dropped” scores are used in calculating caption awards. Again, maybe this is another normal procedure that I’ve just never noticed. Regardless, it’s irrelevant now to me outside of pure curiosity.

Petal – I didn’t see you guys except for on video, but it looked like y’all had made some definite improvements since South Jones.

I still haven’t seen South Jones or Opelika yet. What’s wrong with me?

Cody, maybe we’ll get to have a real conversation at the next one?

EDIT: I still can't spell.

So this was new to host a comp lol. I was lost after we performed I didnt know what to do since we were in finals or nothing, so I roamed around like a lost puppy.

My overall thoughts, amazing day. I enjoyed just sitting back and watching how choirs do things and prepare. I got to stand in warm up a few times and it was interesting to hear just how directors encouarged their kids. Each one was different from the other.

I loved getting to watch shows and drummers and bands. Everything was just different tonight and I loved it. After using my set be the house set, and watching some guys beat the mess out of em, I have a good reason to go and ask our director for some new heads lol. But I cant say a whole lot cause I can play loud every now and again. : )

Congrats Opelika you guys were killer.

Homewood, you guys are some of the nicest people I've met in a long time.

As for Auburn, your dancing was intense! I saw you start your closer and my mouth dropped.

Petal guys are all wonderful. I give big ups to the guys AND girls, who jump on and off of those big risers. Im still amused by those things lol.

Enjoyed it guys, we'll see you next weekend!

A few quick thoughts of mine:

Opelika: Congratulations on your victory tonight! Yall were amazing! Your ballad made me want to get saved all over again! Ha ha ha!!! And miss Jasmine, you are phenomenal!

Homewood: Great job! Yall were better this weekend than last weekend. Way to stay on top of things.

South Jones: To be honest, I had yall in first after prelims. Your energy was incredible. Well done tonight!

Petal: At first, I wasn't a big fan of your show, but as I type this comment, I'm listening to your opener on iTunes. Your closer has been stuck in my head for a while too. I realize that yall didn't place as high as yall would have liked tonight, but keep your heads up.

Auburn: Your choreography melted my face just a little bit tonight. Yall were actually my favorite group of the night. Great job!

Oak Mountain: It was wonderful to see yall in finals! Congrats!
