Never thought I would hear that Wheaton got a 6th place ranking from a judge.

I am honestly in awe of the major variation in scores that happened here. I think "wow" sums it up. What a competition!
I think "wow" is honestly all I can say too Ethan. Those have to be some of the closest scores I think I've ever seen.

I'm currently taking a stats class and one thing we're learning right now is the difference between variability of the means and variability within the means. In this case, the differences in the average final scores of the groups, and the differences in individual scores/ranks the groups received. The variability of scores and ranks each group received far surpasses that of the final scores, that in stats we would say that not one group is necessarily better than the rest here. I'm sorry if that made anyone's head hurt because I know not everyone, including myself at times, can math.

Basically what I'm trying to say is, there was an argument to put any group in any spot above or below any other group(s), and it was blatantly evident sitting through finals and watching everyone. It was a darn good day of show choir and I really wish all the groups could've walked away with a GC trophy cause everyone truly deserved it.

6th- Valley 175

Diane Thayer:

1st- Linn-Mar 190
2nd- Wheaton 189
3rd- Southwest 184
4th- Prairie 179
5th- SC East 172

High-Lows:

Linn-Mar- Ines Cring/Pete Eklund
Southwest- Kevin Chase/Duane Philgreen
Wheaton- Ines Cring/Pete Eklund
Prairie- Ines Cring/Greg Grove
SC East- Michelle Philgreen/Greg Grove
Valley- Ines Cring/Diane Thayer

Ranks (not a part of determining placings):

Linn-Mar- 1 1 2 2 2 3 3 4 5 = 23
Southwest- 1 1 1 1 2 3 5 5 6 = 25
Wheaton- 1 2 2 2 2 3 4 4 6 = 26
Prairie- 1 3 3 4 4 4 5 5 6 = 35
SC East- 2 2 3 4 5 5 6 6 6 = 39
Valley- 1 3 3 4 5 5 6 6 6 = 39

Notes: If we would've converted to ranks, the results would've been the same, which is very interesting. Diane Thayer got it exactly right before taking out the high-low (Wheaton 2nd, Southwest 3rd) otherwise no one else was even close. Kinda crazy that Linn-Mar won big with only getting two 1sts. Lincoln Southwest had FOUR judges place them 1st. but also had 5 5 6. This competition was clearly very close and varied greatly judge-by-judge. Enjoy!

Thanks Adam. I'm also planning on getting each judge's rankings too. FYI, we average all the scores at Mo Show, so all the points before taking out the high-low are x9 and all the points after taking them out are x7. But when averaged, it is out of 200.

As you can see, Linn-Mar's vocals were the big decider in this competition, and deservedly so. Their ballad was incredibly musical.

Post!!

I'm hounding the scoring chair, trust me. So is Ben. Sounds like I might be able to get them tomorrow. Maybe emailed to me tonight. We'll see.

*edit* One thing I DO know..... In the prep division, the first 3 groups were ALL tied for the highest visual score. Just an example of how crazy close this was!

I've gotta speak on this because this is really something I noticed throughout the entire day. The Lincoln Southwest kids were probably the nicest kids I think I've ever met at a competition. Not only did you guys put on a great show but you brought such a fun energy with you all the way from Nebraska. It was really nice getting to see some of my UNL camp friends as well so thank you guys for being so positive and friendly! Yesterday was definitely a treat and congrats to everyone on a great day!
I want to reiterate this!!! The students who hosted Southwest ABSOLUTELY LOVED everyone in Resonance and Ambience.

Also, I want to shout out to the blonde girl who was the main character in Resonance. Girl..... you are freaking PHENOMENAL. Not one single moment in either show where her face wasn't on. Her kicks made me die. I love her.

I'm going to try to get my hands on those tomorrow and post them. 9 judges made it impossible for me to keep track throughout the night. Especially because everyone was SO CLOSE and the judges all had totally different rankings. I want to see them too!!!!!

There was a 9 point seperation between 6th and 1st after finals.

Congrats to all because this in and of itself is such a testament to the caliber of these groups, regardless of final placements. These are some of the best show choirs in the nation, and I'm so psyched to have competed with them last night. Also s/o to CR Washington for hosting an awesome competition and also killing it in their exhibition!
