Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but... even if a choir has the legal rights to perform a song, I doubt that gives an outside company the rights to record the performances to sell for profit.
That's what I was thinking. Where did these companies acquire all the rights to do that?

I believe that if a group does not have proper music rights, posting their show to YouTube might do them harm. YouTube will never really come out and say that it is against copyright laws but companies, like Tresona, can flag the videos as being an infringement of copyright laws.
A few years ago I looked closer into Copyright laws, specifically with regard to YouTube. Best I remember, show choir videos don't technically count. The filming and production company don't actually own the content they're filming, just the footage itself - which is why there's confusion.
Not debating the morality of it all, as I do agree with the fact that folks are uploading video that otherwise has to be paid for. Mostly just playing devil's advocate and trying to understand what other folks might think.
It isn't a gray area if you film it and get permission from the director of the choir you filmed, right?
I second this. While we all enjoy the ease of having the videos on YouTube. It is illegal to upload the videos due to copyright laws and doesn't do the video company proper justice. I think we should have more respect to the well being of these groups and the video companies. If someone wants to see a show, or finals, I highly recommend buying the DVD. I hope this doesn't come off as aggressive or rude. We just can't be selfish about this. This is a real issue now in the community.
The whole issue is really in a gray area.

Wow. That's crazy! Just goes to show how unbelievable every group performed and how hard it must have been to judge. Also shows how different styles of the groups appeal to the judges...one thing is for sure; every group put on incredible performances that clearly gave the judges a hard time! Awesome!
It's true, the show that they performed was very good. As for the scores above, they are in fact preliminary. Center Grove was in fourth after prelims, second after finals, so that's how you can tell that they are the preliminary scores.
I know that 9-1 place were a 12 point spread. 9-6 was a 4 point difference.
That's really weird, because I thought they only did ranking and not scores. At least that's how it was to my knowledge when Marysville competed there in 2013.
MAYBE--Maybe Not?? I need more than assumptions. Assumptions are not accurate, and I need accuracy, especially in Premier competitions of this caliber!
YEAH. Accuracy is very important to inaccurate ranking systems! How dare someone not give us what we all crave?!
