I still don't get how a group can win Best Vocals and Best Choreography and lose.
It actually happened to East at Sioux Falls Washington in... 2011? 2012? I forget the year. But it does happen. It all depends on how the scores are calculated vs. how placements are determined.
I think it's both comforting and exciting in a strange way... like, even if a group wins BV and BC, another group isn't necessarily out of the running.
Edit: I should also add that East is attending Westwood once again this year.

It's crazy. It really is. But this is the show choir world. Sometimes 3/5 judges think group A should win, but still Group B wins by points. Obviously Group A is going to feel cheated because most of the judges thought they should win, but that's not how it turned out points wise. Or it's like group A losing BC to group B because Group B's choreographer was in the panel. The show choir world works in weird and unnatural ways. But show choir technically falls under the "Art" category, and a part of it is subjective it really is. There is no defined way to win. It'd be like taking soccer, and instead of basing the scores off of the amount of goals scored, it's based off the quality of the goal. A lot of it is opinion, and some of it isn't.
But that's alright because sports don't get to go up against 15 teams at one time, and they don't get the oppurtunity to spend a day with the other "teams." Show choir definitely has some downfalls like odd judging systems and weird outcomes, but it definitely has some real cool perks.
