On the morning of the AU Jazz Festival there is an ACT test given at OHS(I think)... and apparently MANY members of Ovations/Impressions are going to be taking it at that time.  With this brought to light, HOPEFULLY they will be moved to a later time in the afternoon/evening to compete .  I love the ACT's.

i just checked the ACT website and february 7 is a test date; and the test will be given at opelika and auburn (univeristy).

Homewood is going when they are because there is a Basketball game at 4:30 in Bham.  It was either perform at 1:00 or be without 5 guys in the show.

Cool... is the rest of the choir staying for the awards ceremony.

Also, I heard that Homewood requested the time that they were given because there is a function in Homewood later that night. Can anyone from Homewood confirm this?

every year auburn discourages the best groups from coming and i think eventually their will be no real competition at all.

Yep, I know... every year either Opelika or Homewood is OUTRAGED after Auburn. I don't suspect this year will be any different. Both may go home mad this year.

Also, I love it when a comp ends with Opelika, Homewood, Enterprise, Albertville in any order. It just makes it more fun to me when the LARGE groups go back to back to end a comp (nothing against the small groups cause y'all are awesome too ;) ).

that schedule is so screwed up. i'm from enterprise and i'm still very angry. i can't imagine if i was from opelika, homewood, or eufaula. what were they thinking putting the best groups so early in the schedule. they should have started with the women's groups first and then on the the small mixed and then the large mixed groups last. does anyone know how auburn university decided their schedule? anyway, every year auburn discourages the best groups from coming and i think eventually their will be no real competition at all.

i sure would like to see auburn compete in an actual hard competition. i'd love to see them at homewood. hhmmmm why don't they ever do that? or petal? why don't they compete anywhere else? i really am honestly just curious. not being mean or anything, just genuinely curoius as to why

I came to Auburn's comp. on my own last year just to watch some of the shows that we'd see later in our comp. schedule. I have to say that Auburn definitely didn't deserve to be in the top 3 much less win the competition. Homewood and Opelika easily should've placed in the top 3. Also, Spain Park and Eufala did very good jobs as well. I think Auburn is a place for small choirs to beat choirs with real names. Not tryin' to offend Auburn High, but just givin' an opinion of someone who has been to at least 50 comps.

I agree... Auburn's competition results are always OUTRAGEOUS!!! I think that's the way they want it to be.

Well... when good show choirs go WAY after you, the judges can't remember who was better. The choir that went last has the last impression.... HUGE ADVANTAGE. Also, a show choir like Enterprise is going last... AFTER A WOMEN'S SHOW CHOIR (Granted it's Tallassee HS "Divas" and they are pretty good). Still, who you go after is also VERY important.

Trust me, we will be talking about this again after the AU Jazz Festival.

This year... listen to the city's that the judges are from!!! Last year there was 1 judge from Auburn I KNOW!!!  I think that there were 2.  That is NOT normal.

....And good luck to all the show choirs that have to go before 1:00pm because they will need it.

yeah, i remember thinking that it was weird that two judges were from auburn.

why do you think it is a disadvantage to go so early?

I hope it doesn't have a bearing on the comp, but I've seen it too many times. This year... listen to the city's that the judges are from!!! Last year there was 1 judge from Auburn I KNOW!!! I think that there were 2. That is NOT normal. "Southern Showcase" doesn't even get anybody from Alabama and rarely gets anybody from the entire Southeast (Last Year they had 1 judge from Orlando, FL and the other 2 were from the MidWest).

Anyway, I just find it too weird that the AU Jazz Festival is the ONLY comp that Auburn HS goes to. Oh, and they have placed there the last 2 years. Hmmm... I just think that it is suspicious.

Anyway, good luck to Spain Park ;)
And good luck to all the show choirs that have to go before 1:00pm because they will need it.

an interesting sidenote since we're discussing auburn:

what do you think about sightreading at a show choir competition?

ParkSingers on Jan 26, 2004, 9:46 PM

since it is auburn university's competition, i have no problem with auburn high school competing, but i do agree that auburn should not have placed as high. i was impressed with the show, but i thought opelika should have won.

as to the competition order this year, it makes no sense. spain park was so excited this year to be one of the "dimmed lights groups," and now it seems that that doesn't mean a whole lot because half the good groups go before lunch. my director suggested that perhaps those groups' directors requested an early time to give them some sort of a tactical advantage-- blow the judges away early and get high scores. but that seems unlikely to me because of 1) the prestige that comes with going toward the end and 2) the fact that three huge groups are all in the morning. hopefully this won't have any bearing on the competition... we'll just have to get there early to watch!

only 12 days!

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!

THAT IS FREAKING RIDICULUS!!!!

i am sorry but what in the BLANK BLANK BLANK kind of lineup is that????? considering that last year Ovations got 2nd place and Impressions got first, and then they had to go and put us at the beginning of the competition?????? that is flat out RIDICULUS. and i completely agree with you Trey. Homewood should DEFINATELY have gotten placed....2nd or even 1st. they were great but hey... AUBURN had to win it!!! hmmm......thats kinda odd. hey i have an idea....why don't we let OPELIKA compete in OPELIKA'S Southern Showcase!!!! i mean, tahts fair....right!!!?? HA. whatever. i am so mad right now.
