Thank you for not taking it in a negative way. I would never want to start an argument and sometimes it is easy to do without trying to! 😊

I didn't mean to hurt feelings and would NEVER have that as my goal. I hope more competitions can happen on different weekends so the students will be able to do what they love more! Please don't take my post in a negative way. I wish you great success with your competition today and in the future.

Thank you! We were so very excited to win at South Jones. I have not seen JA's show, but I know you are always very good. Maybe I will get to see it at Purvis!

Again, please don't take my post in a mean way and thanks for your information on why this year has so many competitions on the same day😊

And I totally forgot to say thank you!!!

Oh I didn't take it bad! Sorry if it came across like that! I'm always very careful on these forums because sometimes arguments happen when a discussion is trying to happen! I personally would love to go to more competitions, but if we go much longer we get into spring break and prom as well as baseball and other sports... Also a lot of schools don't have the funds to go or kids would not be willing to pay the fee to join the choir if it got much higher! But maybe with some of these close-to-home compititions for the Jackson area schools people will be able to attend more.

I agree about competitions. Some have been around a long time. PRC has been going on for for 20plus years.. Petal for probably 20 years. South Jones for 12 or 13 years. South Jones has always been on the last weekend in Jan. The way the calendar worked out just happened to be Jan 31st and Feb 1st. The problem we have in the South is that most of our schools aren't big enough to where people are involved in more than how choir and it is hard to compete past March an still have everyone that is not involved in soccer, baseball and many other things.

I agreee that there are too many competitions on the same weekend. Not to offend anyone, but the PRCC Mississippi Show Choir Contest has been held on this same weekend for at least the last 6 years (including this year). Probably longer, but that is how long I have been in the Show Choir world. I do not know the history of the Albertville contest.
It is a bit disappointing that JA chose to host their's on the same weekend as a contest that has been established for such a long time.
I too would love to see the season extended.

This is meant as a reasonable explanation from the prospective of a student (my 6th year in show choir senior year). I really just mean to explain and point out the reasons for things. Not start an argument, point fingers or hurt feelings! And finally I guess now is as good a time as ever to tell you that I really enjoy y'all's show this year and was so happy for y'all when you won at south

A lot of the oddness of the schedules this year is due to the shifting of dates... I just looked back and realized that South Jones pushed their compitition back a week. And most of the compititions in the south pushed their comps back a week (exception being Prep who put theirs on the weekend that South usually takes place) so, basically the whole southern schedule went haywire putting Albertville's, the Mississippi show choir Contest and Jackson academy on the same day. Because we (Jackson Academy and Mississippi show choir contest) both moved our comps back a week and I'm pretty sure Albertville kept their same date! Last year both comps had better turnouts because Albertville wasn't the same weekend (I think). Similarly, Purvis and Madison Central were not on the same day last year (actually they were two weeks apart I remember because we GC'd at both of them) So this scheduling was not a problem last year either. Baisically the scheduling this year is uncharrictallisticlly nuts.

This points to another thing I've noticed. show choir has been moving in quickly to the Jackson-metro area. Clinton has obviously always been here, but other than JA most of the Jackson-metro groups are 6 or fewer years old (included in this are Madison Central and Jackson Prep). Now the Jackson area has Brandon, Grenada (close enough), Prep, JA, Madison Central, Northwest Rankin, and Clinton (again, close enough). All of these groups are within aproximetly 30 minutes of Jackson. Some of these groups have begun to host their own comps JA, MC, Prep to cater to the growing interest in the area. Many groups attend to cut down on travel costs plus it's simply more convenient to compete 1 mile down the road at Prep. Or in Madison Central's case 12 minutes down the interstate to JA. The compititions are popping up to meet demand... show choir in Mississippi has expanded from the Jone's county and Hattiesburg area; so, a lot of the groups around here would prefer just to go out the back door then get on Highway 49 every weekend to go to aproximetly the same place... Anyway, I obviously don't predict the compititions or choirs in the jones and Hattiesburg area to die out, but the realm of show choir is quickly expanding with many groups Ive never heard of popping up all over the place! So, I expect the schedule thing to fix itself with more groups popping up and scheduling to work out!

Thanks, Luke for letting us know - we appreciate your notification. I agree with John, definitely sad to hear.

Although hopefully this is a learning lesson. It doesn't make much sense to me why the South has 3 competitions on the same day some weekends during the competition season. The South isn't a large enough region to support that, for the most part, as evidence by this competition being cancelled. Or with this upcoming weekend, Mississippi State and Jackson Academy really split a lot of the region's choirs and neither competition is really stacked and Albertville's is still up in the air.

If Southern choirs are reluctant to begin the season earlier, as there are generally very few if any competitions in the South during January, then extend the competition season! The South starts later than the Midwest circuit and even ends before the Midwest circuit too! It's crazy that the South loads several weekends with either two or three competitions and then is basically done near the end of February/early March.

Like, who wouldn't want to extend the competitive season? All it takes is some more considerate and organized planning.

Well, no one's said anything about this yet, so I might as well. We will no longer be having a Deep South Classic..five of our nine groups dropped out, and two of the remaining four groups would come from the same school, so our director decided it'd be best to just cancel it.

When is this competition going to be held? It was the last weekend in February last year. Is it March 1st this year? I was hoping I'd be able to attend if it wasn't the same weekend as Petal again!
This year it's February 15th!
