"i have heard that CR Jefferson and Gretna were given time penalties that effected their placements. Free Spirit was awarded 7th, then CR Jefferson and Gretna were placed behind them, although I'm not sure which one goes first."
After reviewing the score sheets, yes we (CR Jefferson) were knocked by a time penalty, but the main thing that affected our placement was an EXTREMELY low score from a judge that didnt like the show design. Our directer said that one judge had us in 3rd, one in 6th, and the low ball judge had us somewhere around 9th/10th. Gretna probably got knocked for show design as well from that same judge
The groups that made finals were all top notch though, so we congratulate them!
I don't believe that it's fair to blame the judges scores based on show concept. In competitions like this, rarely do groups so close in skill level get necessarily the exact same scoring from each judge. I've seen lots of groups miss finals and-or even a win (Look at Ankeny at Linn-Mar) based on placements like having a first, a third, an 8th, and a 26th. It happens, and anything else is just sour grapes. Great groups can sometimes miss finals at great competitions.
There's usually a place to reflect thoughts on show design on most score sheets (there should be, in my opinion). But what irks me the most, is unfairly dinging students for decisions their director made. It is possible to absolutely hate the design of a show, but give the group good scores based on how they are executing that show. It's hard, but having judged several times myself, I try to focus on the things the students have control over, rather than things they don't. Would I make a note, yes; would I take points off if there was a spot to do so on the score sheet, yes; would I take points off if there was nowhere to feel like I was fairly doing so, no. Just my two cents on a subject that seems to come up pretty often.
That being said, I was not at this competition, nor have I seen the show in question, I'm speaking purely in generalities.

Time penalties??? Woah, I didn't even know this competition had time penalties, I thought some of the groups setting up for finals took a long time with their show included so I can't imagine what the other two might have been...
I feel like a lot of competitions have time limits in day round and then none in finals, but idk.. each competition runs differently haha

Would anyone happen to know the full prelims placements? I'm particularly curious to know where CR Jefferson placed, as well as GINW, Gretna, etc.

Their theme is "Save the World." It's not very abstract or complicated or anything like that, it's just different. I won't go into details about their physical set, but their song selections/arrangements are wonderful and their closer is fantastic as well.
Thank you! I ask because I'll be hosting them at Urbandale and plan on having the best room decorations ever!
I think Millard west or Mitchell could give Westside a run for their money (I haven't seen westsides show) but until anyone in nebraska actually beats out atsc, I won't say a nebraska group is better than them.
Can anyone explain to me what Mitchell's show concept and/or setlist is this year?

WIG sings way better.
I have a big problem with this statement. Since the "new" WIG hasn't competed against ATSC how can you ever say they're better? Also, if you're going based off of history WIG doesn't have an outstanding resume, as you may imply.
The livestream box didn't work properly and we were unable to livestream. I wish we were able to but it didn't work this year. It will be high on the list for next year.
Outside of that, it was an awesome COE. Thanks to everyone who cam!
