First of all congrats to GCS on a job well done. Very entertaining show. You guys sing BEAUTIFULLY. The ballad seriously sounded like there was a performance chamber choir on the stage. Loved the closer costumes and the cheering actually ended up selling better off the stage than what I thought it would. Really nice job and good luck with the rest of your year!
Spectrum. Wow. That's all I can say. One of my favorite shows I've seen. The concept is really cool and the journey that you take the audience on is great. So many fantastic vocal moments. Can't get your opener out of my head. Loved it. You really do April James justice with how you execute her choreography. Keep up the good work. I'm very impressed that this was the debut of Spectrum and you came out like THAT. Lot of good things to come from Ankeny Centennial.
Omaha, what I think your show was missing was some of the uniqueness that a lot of shows are starting to bring. A larger concept fit within a show. I think you took a step in the right direction with your main male soloist for the show, he did a great job and totally deserved best male soloist. Choir sounded beautiful and I am never disappointed from ATSC ballads. But as I said, maybe start working with finding something really unique about your show and really bring it out for the audience. Solid show though. Choreography is pretty clean so far. Just keep working at finding different impact points in your show to catch the audience off guard and make them say WOW.
Linn-Mar 10th Street. I am in love with your show more every time that I see it. It is such a different look than what 10th Street is used to. The concept and story of "Heartlines" is fascinating after seeing the show. There are so many connections within the show between every song that brings the show together quite nicely. Sell every connection that you can and make the audience fall in love with your show like I have. There are some really great moments in the show.
Linn-Mar In Step. One of the most mature prep groups out there. You have a basic show idea that comes off the stage very well. I see the start of many inter-group connections being made between you kids on stage, and the more you work on those and the more you allow yourselves to relax and release into your show and have fun, the more fun it will be for the audience. Sing very well for a prep group. Choreography is pretty solid as well. Just be sure to keep the energy up consistently through the whole show!
West Salem. Be so proud of yourselves. That was a very impressive first show for a school on the mixed varsity circuit. Within a few years work, I am sure your program will grow nicely and West Salem will start to be a name that a lot of groups are going to become familiar with.
This was a great competition to be a starter of the 2014 season. Everyone is off to an awesome start and there will be sure to be many amazing shows at the end of the year. Keep working and love everything you do!
In their first competition ever as a school, Ankeny Centennial finishes first runner up and ahead of two traditionally-top-tier groups. Though this wasn't exactly unexpected, it's nice to see it actually happen.
Finalist:
GCS
Ankeny
ATSC
Linn Mar
Linn Mar Prep
No surprises here. Performance order is posted above. Does anyone know the complete Prep/Middle School results?
I'm surprised this competition hasn't generated more discussion. ATSC, 10th Street Edition, Spectrum, and Grand Central Station? This is going to be a brawl for the top spot. 3 of these choirs are traditional powerhouses and another is making a highly anticipated debut! Should be an excellent day of performances! Best of luck to all choirs!
I really have NO idea how to predict this one since everything is so different every year! I love this competition for that reason! I'll take a guess at it though, just for fun.
This one is really a toss up for me. All 4 of those groups will be so fun to watch and will have amazing shows so who knows!? Also, maybe we will see 2 prep groups in the finals?! I am sure they will both be fantastic.
Thanks for the schedule! Does it perhaps list group names? Everything makes sense and I know this is Ankeny Centennial, because AHS is attending Gretna on this same date, but I do not know which Ankeny Centennial JV group performs when. There is their intermediate mixed, Eternal Rush, and their women's group, Rhythmic Momentum. Once it's clarified who performs when I can add the schedule above. Plenty of time, just a small detail.
I would assume the women's group would be going first. That is usually how things go around here.
