Edit: Spencer, I have to find it funny that you've started this topic 2 of the last 3 years. Or not funny, but rather ironic.

Haha it kind of is, but at the same time, not really... The whole Fab Five situation is settled as far as we at Xavier are concerned. I just want to hear peoples' opinions about Cedar Rapids area show choir.

Last year, I thought Linn-Mar was very, very good... but Kennedy was simply incredible. I was at Great River for both day round and finals and thought Happiness was in a league of their own in the day show, and while their night show wasn't as good (and Linn-Mar's was improved), I still thought they were the clear winner. I don't know what had to have happened at Moshow for Linn-Mar to beat Kennedy, but it must have been big.

I saw both groups again this year at Viterbo. The groups were much closer than last year, in my mind, but I gave the upper hand to Linn-Mar. But, I haven't seen either since, so if Kennedy improved greatly for Supernova, then that may change in my mind if I get to see the shows again at Great River.

From what I've seen from Wash and what I've heard about Jefferson, I think one or both of those groups has the potential, with significant improvement, to bust ahead of Linn-Mar or Kennedy. I would love to see it happen, if only for something different than the usual

last year Happiness beat LM at Urbandale and Great River. LM won at Mo-Show.

But i mean crunifan said "Before it was always".... but it wasn't ALWAYS like that. Really Happiness was in a league of their own 2006-present. LM outscored Kennedy in two of six rounds of competition in 2009 with, I must say, a panel who was quite ready to put Linn-Mar in first.

In 2007/2008 Linn-Mar and Wash were really in a rivalry. Their scores were very close to each other at Great River both years. I'll give LM the upper hand on 06 and of course 09, but in 05 all the CR groups were VERY VERY close, yet again. It really depended on the competition you went to and who was the better group that day.

This year is way different than last. Apparently Kennedy was not in competition form at Viterbo and were much improved at Supernova. From what I saw there, I believe Kennedy would outscore 10th Street now. LM is super clean, but the vocals aren't as good as last year, nor is the choreography as effective or difficult.

If you break down each competition between a day set of judges and a night set of judges, then wouldn't LM have beaten Happiness 3/4 times? I don't know who won Day round of Mo-Show, but LM took the night show, and took 1st at Viterbo in the day and 2nd to Happiness's 3rd at Viterbo night show. I really think it just depends on whether you consider day rounds and night rounds separate contests.

Umm try twice in a row, not 3 or 4. Mo Show 2009 and Viterbo 2010.

Right, the last time before that was Great River 09, where Kennedy and Linn-Mar went 1/2 in that order

although Linn-Mar has beaten Kennedy the last 3-4 times in a row, but I still believe Kennedy is overall, more successful.

I might be biased but I don't really agree. That would be true for last year (09) but the two years before that I wouldn't agree. Wash beat LM in 07 (3 of 4 rounds and 2 of 2 finals) and their one time in 08 Wash beat LM in day round, LM won in finals. Likewise- at GR 07 Jefferson beat LM in day round and LM trumped in finals. So I wouldn't say Linn-Mar was at an overall higher level than either of those two groups. I think it went more:

Kennedy Linn-Mar/Wash/Jeff Prairie

But I know why you had it look that way.

While those individual scores did happen, Linn-Mar has consistently outscored both Washington and Jefferson for the past five years or so. Likewise, Kennedy has done the same to Linn-Mar, although Linn-Mar has beaten Kennedy the last 3-4 times in a row, but I still believe Kennedy is overall, more successful.

does anyone know the reasoning for this?
im thinking its the way they broke down the grades this year into different buildings.
k-4
5-7
8-9
10-12

i think thats how they did it.

its actually

10-12
6-9
4-5
and k-3

its weird with there not being a middle school show choir program anymore. mrs. truax ran a good program.

But I absolutely agree, this is the closest the CR groups have been in years. Before it was always Kennedy/Linn-Mar at the top, Jeff/Wash next, and poor Prairie last. Nice to see Jefferson getting back, and see Prairie really becoming more of a consistent group.

I wonder what the effect will be on Prairie's show choirs now that their middle school has ended their show choir program. Prairie has had one of the strongest middle school groups in the area for a while!

I will say that I personally enjoyed Washington the most. I just love their show, and Jai Ho has such energy. But I feel Linn-Mar performed their show the best. So if that makes sense, I liked Wash best but I felt Linn-Mar is best, haha.

I feel as if all five of these groups are closer to one another than they have been in the past... it will be interesting to see how the Top in C.R. turn out at the end of the season

That may be true, Trey. I received bits and pieces of information over the weekend and attempted to thread an outcome from what I had. You are probably correct, having heard it from someone in the group, as opposed to parents.
