Okay, this discussion has officially been taken over by the Soundwaves and Decibelles...:S

Congratulations to Burroughs Powerhouse and Sound Sensations for the sweep and for rocking the freakin' house!! i know that many doubted your abilities as a choir especially after Ms. Rago left, but Brendan, (oops!! Mr. Jennings) show everyone that it is possible to start from scratch and do amazing things!! I know Burroughs Powerhouse had it a long time coming, and i'm proud of you guys soooo much!!!! A big congrats to Mads for taking home two GCs in less than three years!! WOW!!

oh junn...i miss you.

yes, FAME breaks things down into a percentage. So scores are always seem closer than they might have really been. Which is why my group was only like 15 something behind Clinton the year we went...

Wonder what would happen if you threw Burbank "In Sync" into the competition...

Then the city of Burbank would have first and second.....?

:>

this competition was bomb!!!!!
ps I HAVE A CAPTION TO GIVE OUT:
BEST CHOIR TO DO CHANTING GAMES WITH: TROY-BUCHANAN HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!!
you guys are REALLY cool! and so is every other choir!!! everyone was great!! thanks to all!!!

The Burroughs choir was awesome. Such a great bunch of kids and so nice. Your show was awesome and everyone enjoyed it so much. All the finalists were great. I absolutely LOVED Burroughs "Journey" closer and Troy Buchanan's closer "Life is a Highway". So much energy and entertainment. Such talented kids!!!
Great competition.

Some more awards that I remember:

Best female stage presence: don't know her name, but from Tarpon Springs all female group doing "Popular" from Wicked.

Best Rhythm: Troy Buchanan
Best Band/Ensemble: Troy Buchanan
Best Horns: Ankeny
Best Crew: Troy Buchanan
"Fame" Award: Tarpon Springs choirs
Best Diction: Hudson High School
Best Choreo: Burroughs
Best Vocals: Ankeny
GC Concert Choir: Troy Buchanan

I also thought it odd that the Troy prep group "Soundwave" was lumped in with the Single-Gender. They took first runner up. I could have sworn there were 2 prep groups there but it kind of all runs together at the end of the day! Great competition and a wonderful experience for all. Also, the emcee (from Sullivan IL) was outstanding. Great job! And how cool for all schools participating to receive a guitar from Hard Rock?? Very cool.

my understanding is that they bring it down to a percentage as opposed to raw points.. that way when they condense all the judges' scores they make it out of 100 total.. this way it's easier to say oh you got 94.5 out of 100.. as opposed to 378 out of 400.. (assuming there's four judges in my scenario)

Fame competitions have a really odd scoring system where they take a base score and somehow break it down to a much smaller number. This was the same as last year with us and Troy. The score only said that we won by a margin that was somehow much smaller than 1... Nobody really understood...

Burroughs won by 14 in the end, but i know that the original 1.5 was a weird average that they give you for pre-lims so im not sure what the real numbers were, i know that the ending 14 were the real numbers. Either way it was really close! I had so much fun at this years nationals, congrats to everyone. It was really fun meeting all of you guys from Ankeny and Troy and all the other schools, you're amazing!

Oh and the Ankeny soloist was really good, i thought she might win. Congrats!

Gotcha.. VA kids must have been told wrong!

Best Female Soloist: Ankeny

I heard the points were flip- flopped between first and second between day and night... Ank was ahead by 1.5 in day round... Burroughs won by 1.5. What an awesome competition!

FC, solid finish to the season. Mr Griffel said your finals show was the best of the year,k so that's all we can ask of you. We're very proud at how you hung in and kept working to improve, and you finished with a strong final competition.

Tarpon, hope the show went the best it's ever went for you guys. I'll be anxious to find out how you all felt about it. God Bless, Damon
