Shouldn't the two groups left out of finals by a judging error receive some recognition?!!!

What groups?

I believe the mistake only affected Ross Legacy. Don't know what second group she's referring to.

So what was this judging error?

I'm not entirely sure on all of the details, but I think essentially one judges scores didn't go in to Ross's overall total and thus bumped them from finals

Um, you'd think that would be a pretty major issue...

Carmen Scoring sent an apology to Ross for the mistake, and I believe they're planning on paying Ross's way to compete at Showfest in 2019.

To clear some things up:

A single score for a single category was missing from a single judge, and this was enough to impact Ross' qualification for Finals. After the error was caught by the Carmen Team, myself included, the scores were added up again and with the 6 points that Ross would've received had the score been inputted. That total ended up being enough to flip the judge's rank of Ross and two other groups, and we caught it too late.

This is the very first error in the ten years of the existence of Carmen Scoring. I cannot speak on behalf of Carmen, or it's founders, but I know them very well, and can attest to how difficult the news was on them as well as myself and the rest of the staff. Not only were we disappointed that something like this could've gotten through without notice, but we were heartbroken to know that our friends at Ross would not have the chance to show us once more what "Legacy" could and can do. It is true that we sent a message to the students and directors of "Legacy," and we hope this experience doesn't deter them from competing at Showfest next season where we plan on sponsoring their participation. They have had an absolutely incredible year not even halfway through the season and we as not only a scoring system, but as true show choir fans, cannot wait to see the continued growth and excellence that the choral program at Ross continues to deliver.

Carmen is continuously making improvements and changes every season to ensure that results are quick, user-friendly, and accurate. Quite literally right now we are reprogramming our system in an effort to prevent this from ever happening again.

Thank you for reading. I hope this cleared things up. If you have any questions you can always PM me.

Any details on the point spread in finals?

I heard that the top 4 placements were unanimous

Rank is used in finals to determine placement. And Cameron is correct; the top four placements were unanimous, and only one judge had 4RU and 5RU flipped from the rest

How exciting for Whiteland!!! I’m excited to see how they do the rest of the season!

Kinda crazy how it was all unanimous in finals when only one judge had Fairfield in 2nd in prelims. It seemed to be a HUGE switch and with the point differential. It just seems odd to me.

The point differentials (which I continually am attempting to stress are not the be-all and end-all) were not as large as one might think in prelims.

What is truly admirable is that Whiteland actually received a 1, 2, and two 3's in prelims overall, and then managed to get a unanimous 1's in finals. Flips from first to second aren't really that uncommon. Heck, I've witnessed a few 2RU to GC flips and even some 3RU comeback wins. Whiteland had some of the most incredible vocal moments that I have seen on stage not only this season, but of any show I've ever seen live. It's obvious that the judges agreed as the ranks show just that. It was truly remarkable and a huge congrats goes to everyone at Whiteland.

Edit: Grammar

My understanding is the flip came seeing and hearing the groups back-to-back in the finals. I believe that’s what moved the scores. They had quite a bit of separation early in the day . Both shows were different, but incredible. Hats off to both groups.

Well, Whiteland and Beavercreek performed back to back in prelims and two judges had Beavercreek ahead of Whiteland. I didn’t see Whiteland in person, but from what I saw on the livestream, they definitely stepped it up in finals. I personally believe that Fairfield, Beavercreek, and Whiteland were all capable of taking the grand, but Whiteland was probably the most focused group there, listened to the judges, and made the biggest improvements. A job well done!

Absolutely agree it could have gone to any of the three. I didn’t get to see Beavercreek during the day but I thought they had a fantastic night show, so they definitely deserve some love.

Did each judge judge every category, or did specific judges judge each one?
