There were seven groups in the two divisions, so six would go to the finals. One group dropped out late Friday evening after plans had already been made for six groups to make the finals. You cannot go back and take less groups after it is known that six make the finals. It would have not been fair to take only 3 or 4. Then, to top it off, one group that made the finals decided not to stay for the evening. The director let some of her kids go home after their prelims performance. Therefore, we were left with only five groups in finals. We would have gone with less if there had been more of a warning.

Even so, dropping one group is kind of silly as well. Like I said, I get the financial reasons for keeping them and potentially you could have some changes in placement, but as much effort as it takes to get a group on and off stage, one round would have been sufficient. Trust me, you aren't the only competition to do this, but why have a finals if you are only going to cut one or two groups?

True. There's a great feeling of success when making it to the finals. If everyone makes it to finals, those aren't true finals.

I find it odd that with only six groups there would be Finals with all six groups. It seems like dropping it down to three or four would make more sense or even just do one round. With not eliminating groups, the prelims round is pointless. I get the financial advantage for the competition, but it just takes away the honor of qualifying for Finals.

Thanks for sharing results. For clarification, was Milan in finals or did Southwestern drop from 6 to only 5 finalists?

Middle school results are posted as well as the finalists. Princeton ended up not attending and thus all high school groups made finals. If folks have the order or any additional prelim results, feel free to post them.

What divisions can qualify for finals here?
I'm assuming what you're asking is whether middle school groups can qualify... which I do not know. Obviously based on the schedule and numbers of choirs attending, both Tier I and Tier II can qualify. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
