I don't think that mm78 meant to disrespect the hard work and dedication that the girls who do both groups put out. Part of the reason Carroll doesn't have girls in both groups is because, as I understand it, our previous director, many of you know who that is, would not allow it. It seems that now she is in a different place and she is allowing it.

I don't know about most choirs but with us, the strongest singers are usually placed in the mixed choir and the developing singers start in the girls group (not to say that we don't have some great singers in there too) If our girls in the mixed group were to be in both groups we may be doing as well as the "power houses" in the Single-Gender division. I think his point was we've come a long way with out doing that.

Bottom line is that the option is always there weather or not your school takes advantage of it. Some do, some don't. There is no rule against it, just differing opinions.

Hats off to Norwell. Their director is very talented and has been around long enough to know what the judges like and knows how to bring out the best in her groups. We have been rebuilding, we have a great director, and I think our hard work is beginning to show. With all the freshmen and sophs. in our groups we should keep improving too. The future looks bright for all. And lets face it, we all love to compete (don't we?) This comp was a tough one, now on to the next one!! " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Ugh! I can't believe this! Oh never mind...I'll send a private message so as not to start a public thing. I just have to say this.....If they use some of the same girls in both groups...SO WHAT????

Which songs did Norwell's mixed group perform this year?

I'm an alum and wasn't able to see them this year because I moved out of state.

Thanks!

We did:

Old Friends
Let Yourself Go-Melissa Fiechter as soloist
How Could I Ever Know
Rare Song Birds
Jersey Boys Medley-Nathan Garrison as soloist
Does Your Mother Know?
Reach Up For the Sunrise/Headlong

It was a great show! And a great year! I'm so sad it's over...

I think you hit the nail on the head with this comment. Without passion, all we would have is a singing, dancing choir. Passion makes good shows great, and great shows absolutely incredible. I just wish "passion" could be bottled and passed out on the busses before each comp. It's frustrating to see some approach it like..."eh, I'll do my job and it'll be good enough."

Just amen... to all of it...

It also kills me to see people who don't have as much passion as they could. Why even bother with it if you don't have a pure passion for it? I mean honestly. Sometimes I feel like I have double since I'm in both groups. For those of you who still think it is a bad idea... look at the conversation me and this person have been having. Passion drives us... and trust me... the girls who do both groups got passion! Don't get me wrong... I'm sure there are a lot of people who have the passion for it too, but there is SOO much time and effort that goes into being in both that without that drive.. we would crumble. There are times after our 8th performance of the day ((including the crazy warm-ups)) that I'm ready to quit, but as soon as I step on that stage... I'm renewed. So rethink your statement and realize that it's the best move to give the girls an oppurtunity to be in both.

Way back when...Mrs. Doles would approach each and every competition with a passion that was unrivaled among her peers, we kids fed off of the energy and passion that we saw in her. I would surmise that it is the same now as it was then.

Good Job Norwell. Good Job Carroll and all of the groups in the finals! Thanks East Noble for putting on a fun day!

Thanks you guys from Carroll and Loveland... I'm sure you know how hard it is to transition directors and things like that. I appreciate the words of encouragement. It's too bad that it's my last year because I know that the 2nd year of a new director is always better!

And about the topic on girls who do both groups...I am one of them and it IS because we don't have enough girls. I'm sure if we really wanted to, we could get them... but it wouldn't be good. Haha. I LOOOOVE doing both and it's a thrill being part of 2 great groups. And if it didn't cross some people's minds... I love performing (most girls who are in both love it too...crazy I know, haha) but it's great at competitions to be able to perform so much. It can be tiring yes, but that's what makes groups stronger. I think giving girls a chance to be in both is a great idea. It builds endurance and passion...and I wouldn't be doing anything else. Did you ever stop to think that maybe the reason some groups use girls for both groups is because they simply dont have enough girls? The choir program @ Norwell is alot smaller than that of Carroll's. That is the reason why Mrs. Doles has had to result to putting Mixed girls into the Girls group. @ Carroll she never had that problem because there were plenty of girls to fill out both groups. Just giving my 2 cents on this one...

this is for mm78 who said that the girls groups should keep there own girls and not share with the mixed group!!

i dont know if you have thought this thru but.. girls who do both groups have to do twice as much work.. so if they are willing to make that scrafice of time and effort.. i think its AWESOME and fair! Girls who are in 2 groups.. have 4 shows to do at a comeptition.. and looking at norwell those girls are really strong for being able to pull off 2 winning shows... (or if you count them both being 1st going into finals 4 winning shows)

just defending those hard workers out there!!

BY THE WAY.. i saw all the finalist at east noble.. Carroll and norwell were soooooo on!! it was such a toss up!! they both deserved to be Grand Champs!!

. i just miss the old City Lights that were AMAZING and just rocked whereever tehy went.

so im sorry that we're not "pleasing" you this year but you have to understand something. im sure you didn't mean this in a terrible way (just a guess) but i just have to let this be known.

we have gone through some MAJOR changes in the past year. a new director, new transitions... a lot is different this year. and i wouldnt have it any other way. we may not be the "powerhouse" this year that we were a couple years ago, but we have made some major improvement since the beginning of the year. i know next year when rosalie can do her own show and do her own thing, city lights will soon be known as the "powerhouse" they once were. dont get me wrong, those were good times... i was in it then... but its been fun this year having a new director and making the changes.

bottom line... ms. byrne can DEFINITELY take columbia city places.. she is totally capable of that. so everyone better watch out for city lights and city heat next year because they are going to kick butt! " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

i was thrilled to hear that Norwell swept everything. they are an AMAZING small group that can compete with the big dogs and take them down...i really was hoping that they would win and they did!!! Congratulations Norwell!!!! You guys are WONDERFUL and i know you will continue to be amazing!!

Ladies

Obviously this was giong to be a Norwell dominated affair. THe Norwell women are AMAZING as i have said before and i really dont think there is any competition against them except the Center Grove DEbtones and the CArmel Accents...and even then it would be close....Norwell had the GC in the bag before they stepped on stage

CONGRATULATIONS TO NORWELL FOR THEIR WELL DESERVED GRAND CHAMPION AND TO ALL THE GROUPS THAT ATTENDED EAST NOBLE!!!

I would just like to say thank you for all your kind words! It really means a lot to all of us at Norwell that there are people who have a lot of faith in our groups! So, from everyone at Norwell, we would like to give you a "hoo-haa!!!" <---it's a Norwell thing While I'm posting on here, I would also like to give a HUGE THANKS to our hostesses! You guys were great! Thanks for everything! (If you were wondering, I was the one that asked about putting my diet coke in my bag! ) Great job to EVERYONE who performed this weekend!

When i heard the results that carroll aws 2nd and cc was 3rd...i was a little shocked. shocked just because CC girls have been a POWERHOUSE the lasty few years and unfortunately the carroll girls have been going down hill...it shocked and saddened me both. i just miss the old City Lights that were AMAZING and just rocked whereever tehy went. but congrats to all the women groups in finals!

Select Sound has been making quite a bit of a name for themselves lately...true they have been down for a couple of years, but the turnaround you can chalk that up to two things. Attitude and an understanding of their director. I can only say great things about our girls group...they WILL be quite a force over the next two or three seasons. Over half of the group (23) are quite capable and very talented FRESHMEN. On top of that, there are (6) SOPHMORES (9) JUNIORS & (3) SENIORS.

Many groups “know” that we are young...but where they are surprised is just how good we’ve become! As anyone can see, the mix can only benefit from such an awesome group of talented young ladies. You can see why we’re excited for Carroll Show Choir!!!!

By the way...in case anyone is interested...we don't have girls from Minstrel Magic in Select Sound. We're old school...and that's the way it should be.
