You all may have not been "good" at Milton or Mt. Pleasant... but holy cats... your exhibition performance at "Great River" yesterday was awesome! I was pleasantly surprised and impressed. It's the best "Blue Vibes" group ever... keep up the awesome work!

Hey, i'm from the WV Sound Check too! I also want to thank everyone for their great comments, and of course milton for hosting! We had 18 hours of after school rehearsal in just the one previous week, so it was so great for us to feel like it was all worth it. Haha, we also had to be at school at 4am that saturday morning to make the bus ride up there and support our girls show choir that's beside the point though.
but to the person who asked, the soloists in the finals were:
1. Leslie Smith (from WV) darn I can't remember the name of her song.. some melismatic pop-ish song.. I only played it for her like 10 times... my memory for names is so bad...
2. Don't remember his name, he had a wonderfully involved song that the audience loved i remember though..
3. Casey Fuess (from WV - that's me, I sang Make Them Hear You")
I just got back from tonight's rehearsal, and everyone seems pumped for the upcoming competitions! Milton was soooo fun for everyone I think. Thanks to all!

Seriously they do mean so much! and thanks for the criticism too we need that! we had an AMAAAAZING time this year at Milton and we appriciate everyone's support the groups we're INCREDABLE and we're just so fortunate to even be competing against you guys! Thanks so much for your support and comments, hopefully we'll see you guys at other shows too! Don't be afraid to approach us lol, we're loud choir people just like everyone else and we loooove meeting other groups and hearing what they thought! I LOVED YOU ALL!!! I met a really cool girl named Molly, she is a sophmore. She was very personable and just another sign of how appreciative and COOL the choir is. You all looked so happy, and out of all the choirs there, you deserved it the most.
As far as people saying you're "Mt. Zion," I'd rather just say you are who you are. Which is a powerhouse. You proved it yesterday. You aren't them, you've just taken over!!! mwahahah.

Hey I'm from WV Soundcheck as well and I just love this forum! Everyone is so nice here and encouraging towards other show choirs. Thank you so much, we really appreciate everything everyone is saying! We were shocked at the results and could not be more grateful. We worked very hard and we're just happy that everyone had fun watching our show and enjoying the sound. Everyone did so well at this competition and we were really up against some amazing, hardworking show choirs. Thanks so much!
I think I'll dispell a few misconceptions about sets and props and costume changes.
First, they are not toys of the devil. They do not somehow lure judges into forgetting about things like vocal and dance abilities. A fancy dress will not make up for shouty singing, and extra risers won't make your band play in tune. Using a prop doesn't magically make choreography clean. I think judges deserve a bit more credit than to assume a little razzle dazzle makes them throw their integrity out the window.
They don't have to cost a lot of money.
Also, as shocking as this may be, groups that use these things do not necessarily use them just so they can win show choir competitions or show off how "rich" they are.
Sometimes, groups use sets, props, and costume changes for reasons like: they can be entertaining for the audience, they create challenges for singers, instrumentalists, crew members, and choreographers, directors, and parents. They can visually transform a stage, and set different tones throughout a show.
The more things you add in your show, the more things there are to malfunction or lose. It's not just an easy ticket to a big trophy.

That last thing was perfectly put. At UNL's competition this weekend, the thing that hurt a few of the groups were their costume changes and their sets. I completely agree with you Ana!

4th- TIE Central and West (West ahead in vocals and choreography... Central ahead in band)

Wow! Thanks everyone for all of the nice comments about our show! This competition was great and every group there was just wonderful to watch! Thanks Milton for putting on a solid competition. Hope to see everyone next year!
The dancing nuns, Uncle Sams on stilts, a married couple, and yes, the kitchen sink made that song the greatest show choir novelty of all time.
oh what a great show, even though i wasn't in Company of Singers (or even in high school) yet, but my sister was and i loved that show. It looked like to much fun.
but i agree with the you-don't-need-props idea. they can add to the show, and make it really fun, but you really don't NEED them.
and i liked to thank our hosts, especially jeff and travis and "elliot" (even though eh wasn't really one of our hosts) you made the competition so much fun. I can't wait see you guys at our invitational.

Our competition was fierce and we were so impressed with all the finalists!!!!! We, honestly, went into the competion PRAYING that we would get to compete in finals, and to take home 2 awards was such a huge honor.... we don't have any sets or props or anything, and only one costume change, so we really felt like the underdog! i got to go onstage and accept the awards and I was up there crying tears of joy!
We had so much fun at Milton and we truly enjoyed watching all the amazing groups and seeing what is out there!
