Yeah, back in the day Linn-Mar used to attend Benton's competition. And in 2001-02 (Linn-Mar's "Children of the Revolution" year) Linn-Mar got royally screwed by the judges and received a tie for 3rd place with Kennedy. Jefferson won that competition. That year, Linn-Mar won every other competition they attended (Mount Pleasant, Mo Show, and Sioux Falls). They have never been back to Benton.
In my opinion they perhaps didn't deserve to beat Jefferson. But they should have been a SUPER close 1st Runner up.
Thank you for the kind words about our competition last year. Frankly, my part in it was pretty small...parents and students do most of the work. We were thrilled you guys were able to come, and I thought both of your shows were great. Your night show was one of the best shows I saw all year. You guys went on stage, and just had fun! If Damon hadn't told me about your challenges that day, I'm not sure I would have noticed.
I don't think I ever had the opportunity to tell you this, but you put on an incredible competition last year! It was truly impressive. I would have listed some of the things that I liked about it, but there's nothing to single out; it was all amazing.
If I have to say one thing, it's to congratulate the armies of volunteers you had. They were very helpful (especially in a twisting, turning building like Kennedy!) and much appreciated.
Thanks for giving 4th Avenue a chance to compete on such short notice. If it wasn't for your competition, our already short competition season would have been a lot shorter! It's too bad that we were missing so many people there, but everyone that WAS there agreed that was the most fun we had all year!
Good job, and I can't wait to come back and watch next February!
I would like to extend a warm welcome to all groups to attend the 2nd Annual Kennedy Show Choir Invitational, to be held at Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School on Saturday, February 18th, 2006. After hosting a non-competitive event for 11 years, we made the transition to a competition in 2005.
This event will feature varsity and prep show choirs from schools of all size. We will also host a middle school competition.
New in 2006 is a Concert Choir/Chamber Choir competition which will be held in our auditorium.
If you are looking for a new competition to attend, we hope you will consider Kennedy. Our parents and students are already working to put on a safe, friendly, fun, and competitive event.
Due to the relatively fluid nature of our building schedule, this year's event is being held on a different weekend than last year's. It is likely that we will be on yet a different weekend next year.
Registration forms have been mailed. If you didn't not receive one, or if you have questions about the event, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]
We hope to see you in February!
