Does anyone know if UNI is actually competing or if it is an exhibition?

They'll be in exhibition.

And my point is that it was just a joke. There's never been anything wrong with someone making an off-color joke

This is what is driving me bonkers on this site. Someone can't make a joke anymore without 400 people complaining about it. It's a joke, and it wasn't a personal slam on your group. Get over it

I never said it was an attack on my group. Clearly, it was not an attack on 4th Ave. It was more of an attack on a competition that cannot help who comes to their competition. The groups that ARE coming are very good groups so regardless of the size of the competition, it is still competitive.

Does anyone know if UNI is actually competing or if it is an exhibition?

I understand about that. Speech made it so difficult to do show choir my senior year. We ended up always doing our speech stuff the first time slot and then hauling butt over to Milton or Mt. Pleasant (depending on which round of speech it was) and that SUCKED.

Yeah we have to do the same thing! It really sucks and limits the competitions we can go to! I know for state speech we have 23 students who have to get to show choir that same day!

Unnecessary much?

I don't like to speculate but I know that Xavier has a very large overlap between speech and show choir. This is the weekend of state speech competition and that has been a logistical nightmare in the past (Xhilaration performed at something like 9:30 in the morning in 2009 to make it work, with students going back and forth between speech and show choir sites).

Well last year wasn't so great either, but definitely better than this year. One thing that really hurt Mt. Pleasant was Fab Five being scheduled on the same day. Linn-Mar and Washington had been going to Mt. Pleasant for years, but now they can't go. I'm kinda surprised Xavier isn't going since their director is the previous director at MtP.

its the same reason they have other competitions...to compete. Just because its small it doesn't mean that there aren't good groups. When they make competitions they don't know who is going to sign up. It's unfortunate that its small but its still competitive.

Agreed 100%... its just very VERY small. And thats ok!

I just don't think it's fair to compare the competitiveness with a small competition and a larger one with like 14 4a groups alone (i.e. Omaha Westside). I'm sorry if I offended you, that wasn't my intention..and I have nothing else to say.

It's nothing personal, I just don't understand the point in small competitions like that.

This competition looks stacked..

Even I think this is funny... and I'm the assistant director of two of the groups attending.

Having been the director at Mt. Pleasant the last three years, the biggest conflicts that I dealt with on this date was that of state large group speech in addition to the Fab Five Show Choir Extravaganza in Cedar Rapids. I believe the Fab Five shows used to be scheduled later in March but starting last year they fall on the same date as "Music InMotion".

Agreed, I'm not really sure what happened this year. Last year this competition had 10 groups including Xavier and Davenport Central attending. Regardless, I'm sure it will be a fun day full or great shows and people!
