I want to tell my home show choir that I LOVED the show, even though you didn't place that high you still did an AMAZING job. You guys/gals are going to do great at all the other comps. I can just tell. GOOD JOB MITCHELL!
Some points of the day I liked --
- Chi Hi Harmonics for being really sharp and clean and vocally good at that point in the morning
- All of Westside's soloists (blonde-haired kid in "Feeling Good" = WOW). I'm pumped I am going to be at your comp in two weekends. They breed good singers there.
-Westside's Vocals
-GCS "Great Big Stuff" number and showing that ballads do not always have to be serious, as long as you can sing!
-Mt. Zion flipping the girls around in the fourth? number, I was soooo nervous one was going to be dropped, but NOPE not one. Good trust in each other guys/gals.
-Davenport West's ballad
-Sauk Prairie's vocals and ending guy soloist
-EEE's show in general
-For Onalaska for having the competition run smoothly
-For Mitchell having an outstanding performace/time and knowing you did the best you could of there on that stage. Even though you didn't do so hot you still held your head up high like true sports!
Those are just some little things that I liked during the day. I know there are way more, and if I think of them I will put them down. It was nice to actually watch for a whole day for once, and not worry about anything even though I WAS getting nervous for Mitchell, it must just be a reaction since I was in show choir so long Thanks for the great show's everyone, sorry to say, but all the other comps I will be attending will be here around NW Iowa, Neb., and South Dakota so a lot of you won't be back in this area sad. oh well just means different other choirs to see and expeirence.
If anyone else did see Mitchell that would be cool for some reactions or comments. I'm just curious

I found it weird that most of the shows I watched I really couldnt understand what they were saying. I know the dance moves are usually difficult and I dont know if it was from the sound system or something, but i could not understand a WORD i heard for some songs. i mean, yeah if i paid major attention to the song i could probably comprehend, but i just couldnt!
ohhh i have a good quote that someone said about our group- "Look! They're all in different costumes!" hahaha gahh makes me giggle.
and this is another good one asked by someone from one of the Ona groups "So do you guys do a costume change?" (as we're lining up to go to warm up) "um nope we dont!". the same person asked "is that old lady your choir director?" giggling we said yes in reply, then he goes "really?!?". and were like yup! haha
great times at ona.
I thought the same thing early in the day... "The sound system must be screwed up!" But, it couldn't have, when groups like Eisenhower, Buffalo Grove, Mt. Zion, Omaha Westside, Sauk Prairie, and La Crosse Central came on and you could understand almost every single word they said.

To EEE, Mt. Zion, ATSC, Buffalo Grove, and Sauk
I must tell you, your groups represented yourselves VERY well during awards. We offered handshakes to most of the groups, and most didn't respond with handshakes, they offered hugs. To the EEE folks- you are all so sweet. To the Mt. Zion folks, congratulations- and you guys are sooo nice. Buffalo Grove, wow you guys are very nice, and amazing performers.
Is it just me, or is the professionalism between performers this year alot better than it has been in years past?
Keep it up everyone!

Congrads to all. Could someone please tell me what happened to Twinsburg I have always loved them and also know they have already won a GC this year. That really shocked me they didnt even make finals.
As I have already posted... their vocals were just not up to par. You couldn't hear what they were saying except in the ballad. The band was also a tad bit loud. My choir placed 8th, and our vocals were 9.5 over Twinsburg's. We sang at 10:25, they sang at 3:45. You also need to remember the level of competition that is at Onalaska. Great groups from all over the midwest travel here to battle it out among the best. I liked Twinsburgs show, and my predictions had them in finals. But, ultimately, I knew their vocals might be something that hurt them.

I want more info on the competition now that I'm finally more awake- the first competition always takes a lot out of me...
SO, who won the Director Award they give out every year? What else did they do during the afternoon awards ceremony? Any other highlights? Tell us about costumes, shows, preparedness, etc.
Afternoon awards ceremony was about the same as any other ceremony.
Article
This article tells a little bit about the competition. And has a nice quote from our very own Adam Miller.

P.S. Jorge, that was the best surprise ever, and your poem is awesome. ;) You're definitely too cool for school! Hopefully I'll see you again this season!
Great job to everyone who performed yesterday! It should be a really interesting season. I kind of miss old-school show choir though... " border="0" alt="ermm.gif" /> I guess we'll see where the whole jeans/pop trend takes us.
Either way, yesterday was tons of fun! Show choir is my new favorite way to spend my birthday. There's definitely nothing like show choir, from the hairspray to the turkey sandwiches to the sequin-induced headache that comes from watching just one too many groups. There's nothing better!

I just wanted to say congrats to everyone who performed, I guess I haven't been spoiled much by show choir like all the other big schools and I was really impressed. If anyone who may have seen Xavier has any feedback for me that would be really helpful.
PS. GCS -- Your random show choir numbers were amazing... if someone could send me the lyrics to the "good stuff" or whatever it was (I didn't think to look at a program) that would be amazing... loved that song
I'm just wondering Jorge, how do EEE's vocals compare to last year's?
Also wondering, was anyone in the audience able to see Mt. Zion when they competed back in November? Just wondering how they compared?
Congrats to GCS- talk about going back into the lion's den... I did not envy you yesterday! A huge congrats on the Best Vocals award, I know that's an award you hold close to your hearts. Good luck on the rest of your season- I'll see you at Davenport North, and of course, Chicagoland. I know the kids in our group are just dying to see your show as well.
Miss Buddaha, I have to laugh just a little at your jeans comment. You're usually kinda down on any show choir that does what you consider "traditional show choir"- jeans are a step out of the box compared to the traditional sequins and rivars costumes!
haha i knowwww! but see the thing is, it definately is a step outside of the box, however, not when EVERYONE does it. oh well tho. i guess if you came from a group that i do, you would understand what i think of things (not that you dont already). we watched our show on the way home from ona, and i couldnt help but be like "who wouldnt want to watch a show like this?". its like a story. i cant help it, i love themes!
p.s. ive never really been a fan of like the torn/worn/holey pants worn by anyone outside of show choir anyways, let alone a group. oh annddd! i dont know waht group it was but they came out in an oufit that our matt brennan wore for every solo contest (a little worn jeans, black tuxedo coat). soooo hysterically funny.

EEE's vocals are by far better this year already than they were at the end of the season last year. I think their girls sound is amazing, and the guys sound good, but need a bit of work on blend or vowels. Everything is pretty solid.
I saw Mt. Zion on DVD from Southmont last year... They've improved greatly. It was mostly a different show though.

congratulations to all.
id have to say this was one of my most amazing shows ive done.
going into finals 6th place. even going INTO finals!
we havent gone to finals in 6 years guys. SIX YEARS!
god how amazing!
then taking 5th was even more amazing.
i couldnt've done better my second performance there, and i was so stoked i got to perform twice!
im in total agree with jorge on the boringness throughout groups. i honestly sat there and was like OK something exciting happen, PLEASE. the jean thing..i guess i just dont understand? its like show choir has turned into a lifestyle and demonstrating how life is today/fashion. gahhh if i could go back a couple years i totally would!
i heard central did an amazingly funny/entertaining show. i wish i could've seen them.
To Zioners:
AMazing job. some of that coreography was something no other group could pull off, honestly. but i will say that ive seen better shows in your past. i dont think any of them could top last year and the year before. maybe its because i had a couple people i loveeeddd watching on stage that graduated last year. but overall, amazing, you guys are my grand champs!
Eisenhower:
Nice show as well. i liked the sweet home alabama thing. very cute. i look forward to seeing you guys again (if i do, i cant remember if i will).
overall though, amazing job to all. it couldntve gone better.
