i just turned it on about five minutes ago. i've only been to midwest comps, but some observations/differences:

1) in the midwest we don't have a curtain to hide everything. you can see the crew putting up and striking the set, which i like
2) i haven't seen a comp in a theatre before; they're usually in gyms in the midwest
3) in the midwest they play music in between choirs and everyone sings along

usually we have music too,
maybe we just can't hear it?
but for the competitions i've been to we kind of all socialize in between choirs. talk about which choirs just went, and which ones are still to come. that sort of thing.

If you're out of state and watching online, make a post and say hello! Everyone in California would love to hear where you're from and how far the competition is reaching. Thanks!

Haha, you haven't seen 4 of those 5 groups yet.

ive seen all of those groups perform this year though.

unless they change there set, i stand by my predictions.

i mean, some groups might have improved on vocals and choreo,

but after they all perform im sure ill change my predictions.

there are no finals.

I liked staying up till forever in the morning watching finals. Why'd they have to take it out? RAWR!

Bonita sang very well, and I liked their show design, but I don't think that visually they'll be able to match up with Burroughs or Burbank. It's gonna be a close shave for finals!

It wouldn't be California if we didn't have the over the top colored lights! LOL

without the lighting, it would be boring.

I don't agree. If a performance has to have colored lights zooming around the stage to make it entertaining, then the show choir isn't doing a very good job.

Just another stylistic difference like the curtains. Many things about show choir are the same around the country, but there are some differences from region to region just like anything else. I'm just grateful we have the technology to share this competition with everyone, and hope that those who are watching are enjoying and finding value in it!

The live feed will return at 5:30pm (Pacific Time) to allow for a dinner break.
