Well from what I understand, they're completely full. I believe Zionsville was even kicked out, because they were full.

if i were to talk to my director, is it too late to join this competition?

From what your signature says, you already have a competition you are attending on the same date... Sioux City East.

As a fan of Huntington I hope you are right about the GC. But there are only about 8 returning senior singer- dancers in the group.
Edit -This was not meant to be a put down of the group,it is just a statement. Also there are 10 seniors not 8 returning.

It has nothing to do with how many returning seniors ;) 2004...there were not very many seniors and Huntington had a stellar year...only losing one competition (MIC against Clinton, Lawrence Central, and Laf. Jeff!!!. How the group performs is going to depend entirely on the MENTALITY and EFFORT of the group

I know that you were not trying to be offensive at all, but...really...the comment wasn't needed.

Go Huntington! I'll be rooting for you in the Audience!!!!

So it looks like some very very good groups are going yet again. I don't believe Center Grove was too happy with last years contest so i'm sure they're not returning but can't WAIT to see everyone

Burbank- your show last year Was very very good. Great performance at Fame NYC in a REALLY difficult competition. your style is pretty different than the midwest scene so its really exciting that you all are coming.

Huntington North - I have only Seen one show that could have beaten you all last year at Franklin Central. You were Red Hot as you always are. Definately my number 2 in indiana. it'll be great to see what you do against a completely different choir like burbank.

Crete - Probably the nicest Group of people i've ever met and all very talented. You guys lost quite a few ppl last year though right... kind of a rebuilding year... Excited to see what you do.

Carroll, Mayfield, Norwell, Homestead - all four of you guys have really Improved steadily over the past 5 years. Carroll you and FC were close a couple times last year if i remember right... Definately time to see what you all have got

Now... if FC could get North Central, Laff Jeff, Lawrence Central, and Dekalb there... that would be monster competition... Also...

Anyone have any word on Fairfield? thought they were Attending FC as FC is attending Fairfield

my thoughts

GC: Huntington North
1st RU: Burbank/Onalaska
2nd RU: Burbank Onalaska
3rd RU: Fairfield (possibly in second or third as well)
4th RU: Crete-Monee
5th RU: Dekalb

These are just my thoughts....it's gonna be hard gettin into finals. HN, Burbank, Onalaska, and Fairfield I believe are easy to pick finalists. It's the last two spots that are hard to call.

Something tells me that Fairfield will not be in the bottom three. I'm not quite sure Onalaska will make the top three either.

I feel that this topic should be bumped up, as it feels like it's just around the corner (at least on our schedule)...........

There doesn't need to be name calling here, but I have to say I really don't think you'll have a problem... Mr. Wenning and Jason Johnson rock at what they do! I wouldn't worry about a thing.

Whether anyone wants to vocalize this admission or not, I think we all know that Franklin Central's competition will have the subliminal undertone of "Midwest versus California". Whoever wins will be Top Dawg for the next week, if not longer. And serious bragging rights will come with that honor....

Anyone who claims a stylistic victory regardless of who wins this one just doesn't know their show choir. Don't forget that Burbank's director is from Indianapolis (a former Decatur Central Goldenaire) and previously taught at Mundelein. They are also choreographed by a Hoosier, Damon Brown, and a southerner, April James. I've yet to see this year's show, but in recent years their song selection (save last year's California medley), costuming, use of brass, and choreography have been fairly traditional; i.e. "midwest." But honestly, except for Burroughs and North Central who would both be unique anywhere, are their really regional styles anymore?

Now CA competitions are different: all require at least a minute of a capella singing, many are held on Friday nights, and several use rather antiquated score sheets; i.e. few show elements. Only SoCal (Chula Vista's contest) has finals - and just for the first time ever this year. Choirs aren't assigned homerooms (come ready or dress on the bus), and the atmosphere is decidedly more casual - even friendlier - than most midwest contests. Show choir legend J. Kevin Butler (founding director of Lafayette Jefferson First Edition) judged his first CA competition last year (Burroughs Music Showcase), commenting how much more supportive each choir was of the others out here, and how genuinely delighted each choir was who received a trophy, regardless of place.

Franklin Central is gonna be a terrific comp all right, but simply because of the quality of the groups, not any regional rivalry.

Whoever wins will be Top Dawg for the next week, if not longer. And serious bragging rights will come with that honor. If a midwest group wins people are going to be thinking "THAT is how it is done, California!" and if the California group wins they will likely think "We came, we saw, we CONQUERED the midwest!" In all seriousness, it is a friendly competition and a fantastic way to see beyond each other's show choir borders and styles.

All groups, especially the mixed groups, MUST bring their A++ game because just an A game will not get you into finals. Let's face it - just getting into finals will be the bloodbath. Finals will come down to which group is tired from the long day and which group is not. I think it would be amazing for whichever group performs last in the day to turn around and draw the first finalist spot and then go on to win it all.

I think it would be hilarious for the announcer to say "Let the bloodbath begin!" right before the first large mixed group.

I will be sure to bring my laptop and wireless card with me that day because half of Show Choir Nation will be on the edge of their seats in the evening.

you'll have to go to starbucks or something to use wireless... FC doesn't put out a wireless feed of it's own and The school is virtually impossible to get even a cell phone signal in, let alone pirate a wireless network from surrounding houses... I'll probably drive down to my parents house down the street to post haha...
