Sorry, it has just been a long day and I am sick of nice guys finishing last . We had our best show ever, though, and for that we are proud. However, I agree the class system is jank. Dekalb and Plainfield prove that every weekend of show choir season. It's great for schools like Churubusco that are good but don't always make it to state but for schools like Plainfield and Dekalb that compete with the big dogs weekly it stinks. Maybe the class system could be based on top 18 or 24 choirs from the state? Top 9 or 12 go to Class A state and the next 9 or 12 go to class B? Only problem with that is there is no way of knowing beforehand who would compete in which so picking a school to host class B would be difficult.

Plainfield had one of the most beautiful vocal sounds i've heard this year. Your show is kind of simple, kind of out of date as far as the "new age" of show choir goes, but plainfield ALWAYS executes VERY well... And in all reality, as i've said before, you cannot judge anything else in show choir.

There is one problem plaguing the world of Indiana Show Choir, and that is...

Duh duh duh.......!

The ISSMA Scoresheet...

I just printed a copy so i could burn it...

i agree. plainfield and dekalb both compete at the level as the class A level and should be allowed to compete at state at that level

Exactly... I would guess that Dekalb and Plainfield scored similarly to Northrup, Pike, HN, and Warren today, yet they get a separate class because they live in a more rural area. I don't know about all that.

The reason i have an issue with this system is because it causes so much turmoil in ISSMA State marching band contests.

Franklin Central marching flashes have been "Class A" from the very moment they switched from "Track Marching" (indiana state fair, dirt horse track), to "Field Marching" (BOA Grand Nationals, the highest class for HS marching bands). They have NOT won a competition since...Most bands in Indiana that compete in Class A have around 180 to 200 members... Certain years, bands like Snyder, Ben Davis, Castle, Homestead, Avon, and Carmel, have jumped to numbers exceeding 400. Franklin Central usually marches with 120 members at most (20 or 30 being Color guard and producing no sound). Because of FC's Enrollment numbers, they are forced to compete with band programs that are FAR FAR bigger than they are...

FC won Indiana State Fair Marching, 6 years in a row, got 2nd one year by .5, then won by 20 points their final year. At that point, they were literally banned from the contest, saying that it was unfair for them to compete there...

It was an honor for Northridge to compete at the ISSMA state event this year. First year with our new director - many many changes in the program - and we had a great time.
CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who performed today at Plainfield - everyone did a fantastic job and really kept the spirit of competition alive by bringing their best to the stage!

A big shout-out to DeKalb, Plainfield, and Columbia City - well done and thanks for setting the bar so high!

Thank you to Plainfield for hosting a great event today.

I agree with the placings for the womens. FC had stronger vocals. I think I would have given choreo to Carmel.

For mixed... I would have put NC, FC, and Carmel in the finals. I would have either had FC or Carmel as GC. I may be a little biased because I like the class of these two groups more than NC's more hip hop style.

I don't think the judging was any good. I heard it was all across the board and strange. Not something that should have happened at ISSMA. It should have been more solid.

Just because the vocals are louder doesn't mean they are better. Some groups have 20 more people than others. I don't think the judges took that into account. I think FC had better vocals. That is just my opinion.

This ISSMA contest is going to hurt the chances of their ever being another ISSMA contest in the future. Sorry. That is just my opinion.

This sounds almost as bad as last year...
And as far as volume goes: Dekalb for one puts half their choir on the floor so they are drilling the mics and pounding their vocals through the speakers; that's where half their volume comes from and it makes it seem like they have powerhouse vocals and like they have a huge choir .

For the record, Plainfield has also beaten many of Indy's top choirs over the years. We have beaten Carmel, LC, Warren, and Ben Davis in the past two years . Thank you for calling us the best choir in Indy's "small mixed" category; however, we can compete with the big schools just as well as Dekalb.

Congratulations to all the Class B schools, especially Columbia City: you guys were great and you had so much energy! Good luck in years to come :D

Congrats North Central Counterpoints!
It's about time the judges picked the right group as GC for state.
Your shows are amazing year after year, and you defiantly deserve the title of best in the state.
Also, congratulations to all of the other school's in A and B class ISSMA competitions today.
It was a great weekend with great competition!
Can't wait to see what different groups bring to the table next year.

Well what were your results? What did you think???

Why do you disagree with the judging?

And yes, i'd be very surprised if the ISSMA contest lasts more than another 2 years at this rate.

Looking back at the final performances, I agree that NC deserved GC and FC as 1RU.

i'm glad that all who attended awards at ISSMA started chanting "Warren Central" after the mistake. I could tell it lifted their spirits just a little higher. And we kept chanting when they lady was trying to say the next choir. WE SHUT HER UP! YEAH! that was awesome.

I'm going to vote that Dekalb needs to compete in Large Mixed lol...

Plainfield is clearly the best choir in indy's "Small Mixed" category. The fact that Dekalb over the years has beaten MANY of this years top 6 Large mixed choirs over the past 5 or 6 years makes this a little bit unfair.

They're hardly a small mixed group.

Yes, i understand that the classes are based on the ISSMA Band enrollment limits... This doesn't make much sense for show choir though.

This competition was a big disappointment. I don't agree with the judging. The awards unprofessionalism was very overwhelming. I wouldn't be surprised if some schools decided not to do ISSMA next year. This is not how ISSMA should be.

Congrats to all choirs. Great season 2009 show choirs. Break a leg for FAME for those going.

Anyone who's a big fan of North Central's "The Devil You Know" might be interested in this video.

It's their 2005 version which showcases much much cleaner choir, and you can even tell how much better the vocals were on VIDEO. Oh, and you can watch it in high quality.

CAN'T WAIT for my dvd to come so i can post this year's "The Devil You Know" right next to the 2005 version.

It's nearly identical. The start off in a slightly different block during the transition into it, but other than that...

Edit: um, might help if i actually gave you the link...
